Even if we did Musgrave wouldn't know hard to use him he would turn him into a pure pocket passer that dinks and dunks .Purple Jesus wrote: Kaepernick looks pretty awesome in this stretch of starting games he has gotten so far. I wish we had him.

LETS GO VIKINGS !

Re: Check Down Charlie
Ponder had opportunities, he overthrew three balls. Doesn't even see wide open receivers others. Yeah Musgrave should be fired, but look at Bevell once he has an even average quarterback. This is on both of them. Ponder just as much, if not more so, than Musgrave.Lash Man wrote: Even if we did Musgrave wouldn't know hard to use him he would turn him into a pure pocket passer that dinks and dunks .

Former Vikings long snapper Mike Morris said on the post-game show that it is his opinion that the inconsistent QB play cannot continue much longer. They will be forced to make a change if the inconsistent play continues much longer.

Re: Check Down Charlie
Wow finnaly somone in the media points this out. ponder is a one hit wonder. If the ball isnt out of his hand in 1 second, bad things happen. And now he cant even run with it. His coaches have scared him into not even trying to sneak the ball in, and the ball is always getting away from him.CalVike wrote:Former Vikings long snapper Mike Morris said on the post-game show that it is his opinion that the inconsistent QB play cannot continue much longer. Re: Check Down Charlie
The problem is that if they make a change, the inconsistent QB play is likely to continue anyway. Webb has never given any indication that he can be a consistent NFL passer.CalVike wrote:Former Vikings long snapper Mike Morris said on the post-game show that it is his opinion that the inconsistent QB play cannot continue much longer. While true, I'm in the camp that says they should shake it up post haste, on a temporary basis at minimum, if the QB play remains subpar.Mothman wrote: The problem is that if they make a change, the inconsistent QB play is likely to continue anyway. Re: Check Down Charlie
Throw Webb out there so they can prove that he isn't the guy either.
Sage was best QB on this roster. Would have had an outside shot at wild card with him. Don't even have that with these other clowns.

Re: Check Down Charlie
I gotta say that I am pretty much now convinced that Ponder is not the guy. I was very hopeful, but after today, being after a bye, he played like a scared kid. His footwork looks bad and his mechanics and timing are not improving. He sometimes throws a pass that meets expectations, but that is what he is supposed to do. Russel Wilson (who I would have loved to pick, but, I'm a huge Badger fan) is playing way better than Ponder.
Right now, Ponder is playing no better than Tjoke was playing when we got rid of him.
I really don't want to see Joe Webb as QB as he won't be any better. I"m good letting Ponder finish the year at QB and looking for another alternative. I wouldn't even mind if Speilman went after Alex Smith if no better player is available in the draft.
On that note, I also have doubts about Frazier and Musgrave. This was an extremely poor performance after a bye week and against a familiar opponent. The team was flat and the scheme was everything we have seen all year long. Nothing new, no risk taking no surprising plays or wrinkles after having 2 weeks to prepare.

I'm willing to give him a few games to prove it one way or another. If he stinks, we get rid of him, too.Mothman wrote: The problem is that if they make a change, the inconsistent QB play is likely to continue anyway. Webb has never given any indication that he can be a consistent NFL passer.

A few more games and the season is over. He should have been benched when this thread was started.soflavike wrote: I'm willing to give him a few games to prove it one way or another. If he stinks, we get rid of him, too.

NO NO NO! Do not take Ponder out. He has got to have the full year. Webb is definitely NOT the Guy. I don't know that Ponder is the Guy either. At this point I am really wondering. We all knew that this stretch of games was going to be very difficult! Us losing today was NOT Ponders fault. The whole team sucked today. Ponder needs to play this out. Us getting to the playoffs was a long shot anyway. If we don't make it it'll be no surprise! I really think Ponder needs to finish this year. We have to get him help next year. But that's it. If he doesn't show a significant improvement next year with help then it's time to move on. I do believe the Vikes have to prepare to replace him next year and have someone like Smith waiting in the wings to come in if Ponder can't perform next year. I'm not for waisting many games waiting for Ponder to improve especially with better receivers.
Re: Check Down Charlie
How do you know that Webb is "definitely not the guy"? He is obviously talented with his feet, strong as hell, good arm strength... I'm not convinced he can be a great QB, but I have not written him off yet. Let's see him a few times before we give up on him.Delaqure wrote:NO NO NO! Do not take Ponder out. I think we have gotten a pretty good picture of what Christian Ponder can do, and what he can't do. He's not the answer to any question other than "Name the biggest reach of the 2011 draft?"

Re: Check Down Charlie
That is what I keep asking myself too. Lots of posters on here think Webb sucks just as bad as Ponder. I find that interesting since Webb has not had 21 games to judge him by like Check Down. Frazier needs to use some brains and grow some balls like Jim Harbaugh.soflavike wrote: How do you know that Webb is "definitely not the guy"? Re: Check Down Charlie
When QB A is not winning and looking deeply flawed repeatedly and consistently, you have to play QB B and determine if the problems are systemic with the QB or the supporting cast. Now is the time. I have no idea who is the better QB, Ponder or Webb. What I know is dreadful QB play is contributing heavily to losses, week after week. The QB position is now no better than under McNabb last year. In 2008, QB C was benched at 0-2 and QB D went 8-3 and won the division only to be benched after injury for QB C for a playoff loss. Be smart, coaches, sit Ponder, play Webb.purplehaze wrote:That is what I keep asking myself too. Lots of posters on here think Webb sucks just as bad as Ponder.
