Then there's the battle in the Senate, where the bill seems less likely to pass.
Odds are it will pass in the Senate as well for the same reasons it made it through the House. It will come through with other amendments and quid pro quo attempts by various legislators, many of which won't make it into the final bill, but I doubt the Senate has the appetite to be the ones viewed as ending this process at this late hour.

If this process fails, it will be on the final vote by both houses. That's when there will be enough political cover for the pols to duck-and-run if that's what they intend to do.

I agree. All of the politicians are morons, idiots, and should all be shot. I hate them all. Most worthless bunch of lying imbiciles.

It's all a bunch of CYA. The ones that voted for the amendment and passage can say "yes, I voted for it with the stipulation that there be an extra $100M from the team. then those sneaky bastards in a smoky back room stripped it out of the final bill. It's not my fault!"

I saw someone speculate that the Senate version of the bill may not include the $105M amendment, and that the final version of the bill could split the difference. Then it will be up to the team and the NFL whether or not they'll accept paying an addition $52.5M. It may even be that the team was counting on the final bill putting more financial responsibility on them. This certainly isn't Zygi's first real estate negotiation.

Goodell has come right out and stated that the NFL is not looking to expand any time soon. If the Vikes move the only options to replace them are an expansion team (yay! - after 50 years of watching the Vikes get close multiple times we'd get to start over from scratch), or hoping to pilfer a team from another city or state that has a preponderance of jackoffs elected to office.
If the state can't build a stadium for the team it already has....what is the thinking that suggests that for some reason they will cobble together money for a stadium for an expansion team or one that relocates to Minny?

If the state lets the Vikings walk in spite of all that Zygi has agreed to finance....who in their right mind would want to move a team there.

I think the logic is that lawmakers would realize what they've lost only after the team has left the state. If the team does move, I don't believe it could ever happen and Minnesota will never again play host to NFL football.

I'm reminded of pro sports teams from back in the day, like the Brooklyn Dodgers. I say to myself "How odd that a borough of New York city once had its own major league baseball team". I think people 50 years from now will be saying "How odd that the state of Minnesota once had an NFL team".

Boy, you've sure got that right.

What happened yesterday was monumental. No one thought a few short months ago that this House would support any stadium plan. For it to pass 73-58 is epic.

I know, but really, what's to stop them from adding an amendment that says "Zygi Wilf pays for 100%, no public funding"? It just makes me mad.

They need the cushion because a lot of those votes will turn to "no" once the bill is amended even more. That is, if it passes the Senate which right now is certainly not a given.

Spkr Zellars would have killed it in committee were that to be the likely outcome. We are past that fear in my mind. The process ain't pretty but this is a go if the Senate passes it today.

The NFL has a long and storied history of teams that have either up and moved or been sold and moved, only to see their former homes that balked at fairly modest investments offer 3x as much to lure a franchise back. While there is no guarantee that Minnesota would do the same should the Vikings leave, odds are good they would try. Of course, the NFL pie is only so large, and based on Goodell's recent comments about expansion/relocation I'd say Minnesota would be waiting a long time before the chance to get another NFL team presents itself.

Minnesota has done this with two other pro teams - the Lakers and North Stars. Hopefully they won't add the Vikings to that list.

Senate approving increase of #Vikings stadium contribution to $452M in a landslide.
Remember, House voted to increase #Vikings' share to $532M. So, that basically opens an $80M negotiating window for conference committee.
The Senate approved that UNANIMOUSLY, by the way. Don't see that happen very often. Bill co-author Julie Rosen supported the measure.

If I'm reading this correctly, the Senate voted to raise the Vikings share, but only by $25 million. NOT $105 million as passed by the House.
