Well, it's over. Even Yogi Berra would have to concur.

A House committee voted down a motion to move the bill along to the House floor without recommendation by a 6-9 vote. About the only thing I can say for them is that they at least put 9 votes on the record and didn't use some dishonest dodge like requiring a referendum so as to effectively kill it while appearing not to.

I can't see how anything gets resurrected this year. Maybe a post-election lame-duck special session as the spectre of losing the franchise for real starts to loom large during football season? And then it would have to be $700M+ directly from the state budget, as it's clear that (A) neither Mpls nor Ramsey County can legally be a local funding partner given the referendum requirement that would surely come about either politically, statutorily, or judicially, and (B) gambling is a mirage as a funding source since the only way to generate enough revenue requires going to war against an Indian lobby that no one can take down.

Which means that Zygi is now free to leave MN if he so chooses. He can start talking to L.A. or other buyers, put the team up for sale, and file the re-location paperwork with the NFL next February 15 after a final lame-duck losing season. I certainly can't see why he'd bother coming back to the Capitol next winter when far greener fiscal pastures await (pardon the pun)....especially as he just had to put in another capital call to his co-investors to pay the bills for this NFL year (per Sid Hartman).

The only other alternative is to do his best Pink McCheap impersonation and run the franchise on a shoestring budget, and why would he do that? Being a tightwad is not his M.O. and the only way to recoup his massive investment is to sell/move while the franchise is as spruced up as it can get in MN. And that's about the point to which he's brought it now. (Recent on-field performance notwithstanding.)

Zygi, I really really hate to say this, but it's the truth: It's time for you to give MN the "Stone Cold" Steve Austin double middle finger gesture, followed by an Eric Cartman "Screw you guys, I'm goin' to L.A.!" and get the hell out of this utterly ungrateful and undeserving state. You and your finances have suffered more than enough, and you have nothing to show for it. You're not one iota closer than when you began. And at this point any further begging just makes you a pathetic doormat. (If you haven't figured out by now that the despicable MN politicians don't want to do this, have never wanted to do this, and never will want to do this, and have only dragged it out for over a decade just to weasel off the hook and disingenuously pin the responsibility/blame on whomever else they can so as to get re-elected after the franchise is gone, well, you're just not a particularly bright man. Have an epiphany or two, OK?)

Happy landings in Hollywood, should you retain the team. If not, I for one will always be grateful at how hard you tried here. Art Modell, you are NOT.

I am inclined to agree. This must leave a sick feeling in Zygi's gut right now.

Thank you, Minnesota legislature, for losing the team that means more to the state than the other three combined. you are a bunch of complete morons and do not deserve to be in the postions you are in. All of you can go straight to hell, where I will see you at some point and give you my thanks in person.

Fiscal responsibility at its finest! What a #### joke.

I am not following this team out the door. As far as I am concerned, it is not the same team.

Well we'll have at least one more year left with the team. Hoping that I can have a least one miraculous event in my life go my way for once by having the Vikings find a way to stay in Minnesota. If they're gone, I'm done supporting them - Minnesota MAKES the Vikings.

Absolutely a perfect example of politics in the modern world. People making decisions based on their party affiliation and no desire to risk their seat rather than doing what is right. Thanks for nothing legislature.

Skol.

Oh, well. It was a good run while it lasted. I don't see how Zygi and company would even want to talk to the politicians in MN in the future. I can see him putting the team on the market. Wouldn't that shock the Politico's?

If they move, I will have to find a new team.

I'd agree if I wasn't so emotionally attached to this team and home state. Damn this hurts...

Yeah, I hear ya. If the Vikings move, I'll make a decision regarding the team at that point. Don't know how I would feel.

Because the idiotic politicians aint gonna do nothing until they absolutely have to. Maybe not even then.

While I'll be upset, I won't blame Zygi one bit if he sells or moves the team.
If Zygi starts talking about moving the team it won't be a threat so it should be the last thing you want to hear. He's not played games like that to this point and I don't imagine he would start now.

If history repeats itself the franchise leaving MN will win the championship soon after leaving. On the positive side for the Vikings, they are going to win a Super Bowl. It just isn't going to be as the Minnesota Vikings.

I am so pissed at the politicians right now. All of em don't deserve to be re-elected. I just think it is to late to save the team.

but don't worry. you'll get another cheesey franchise to come back to the cities in about five years and spend a billion on a new stadium instead.

meanwhile, the real vikes will be in a stupid city like L.A., and probably win a title or two.

can't believe how short-sighted some folks in minnesota are being.
i'm ready for a beer.
