Vikings Launch Media Campaign On Stadium Efforts

The Vikings will kickoff a broader media campaign on the team’s stadium efforts during tonight’s Monday Night Football game in Green Bay. Fans watching the Vikings-Packers game on either KARE 11 or ESPN will see television ads based on the team’s stadium advocacy video unveiled on Saturday, November 5.
The Vikings media campaign is designed to drive accurate information on the stadium issue, arm fans and supporters with the facts, and remind everyone what the Vikings mean to Minnesota. Online, radio, print and television advertising elements will be included over the next several weeks, and the team will begin making community stops around the State to discuss the issue.
“This team is followed by over two million Minnesotans every week and is an important piece of the fabric of this State,” said Lester Bagley, Vikings Vice President of Public Affairs and Stadium Development. “We have a great story to tell, and it’s time for us to take the case for a new stadium more directly to the public.”

Ramsey County reaches deal on Arden Hills site
Ramsey County commissioners on Thursday announced a tentative deal to buy the proposed Vikings stadium site in Arden Hills from the federal government, giving that plan a much-needed boost -- if the money can be found to do it.

How is it that the Vikings are where they are with their commitment to Arden Hills while the Ramsey County board is just _now_ approving it?

Maybe its a small hint at how many hoops they have to jump through and the massive amount of politics involved in getting this done.

Dayton: Vikings special session 'doubtful'

Gov. Mark Dayton, who had been pushing for the Legislature to decide on the Minnesota Vikings stadium issue this year, now says that does not look likely.

"I'm doubtful that there will be a special session at this point," Dayton said.

The governor said he is meeting Tuesday with Ramsey County Commissioners, including Commissioner Tony Bennett. Bennett has been the chief Ramsey County cheerleader for moving the Minnesota Vikings to Arden Hills, the teams preferred future home. He will also meet separately with officials from Arden Hills.

Despite those continued meetings, the governor said it does not appear that the deal will be all sewn up soon.

"I don't believe we are going to get to a point of being able to have a specific proposal or two specific proposals," if Minneapolis also has a proposal to keep the Vikings in that city, Dayton said.

Still, he said settling the question would be best.

"The Vikings deserve an answer, the people of Minnesota deserve an answer. We should make a decision one way or the other and not just avoid it because it is a politically uncomfortable vote," Dayton said.

I give credit to Dayton for saying that, unfortunately, Dayton cannot be the only one trying to get this issue settled.

Wilf is incredibly patient, IMO. Both the Twins and Gophs have had theirs built and in use for a couple years, and the Vikings cant even get a sniff.

I agree with what Dayton said, if its "no", then just come out and say "no", so both parties can move on. I knew politicians were weasley, but cmon, make a stand and live with it, whatever that stand is.

My guess, if nothing happens before the end of the season, the Vikings will be for sale. Maybe that gets the ball rolling, maye it gets the moving vans backed up, but just continuing to do nothing is ridicolous on the state spart.

Having been a political aide in the past lemme see if I can put your mind at ease. Typical when politics is "working" a vote is just a technicality at the end. What has probably been going on here is that the Vikings have been in Agreement with the Ramsey board for a while and just now the vote happened but it was never in any doubt. I would take this as a VERY good sign because usually this would indicate that they have already been working on the next step... whatever that is, for some time now.

Vikings stadium: Fair timing on hearings

Mark your calendars. Two long-awaited public hearings on the Minnesota Vikings' stadium issue have been scheduled by state senator Julianne Ortman. They will take place Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 in front of two legislative committees that would figure heavily in the advancement of a presumed bill in the state legislature.

The rhetoric level of these hearings figures to be high, both pro and con, but stadium supporters should be relatively happy with the timing. They will conclude some six weeks before the start of the 2012 legislative session, providing a window either for a late-December or early-January special session on the topic. If nothing else, some important work will have been conducted before the regular session begins Jan. 24.

Gov. Mark Dayton wrote in an op-ed piece over the weekend that he hopes the legislature will vote on a stadium bill within a month of opening their session, or Feb. 24.

The hearings are no guarantee of future progress, of course. In a release, Ortman said: "Based on information provided to these committees, we will determine if there is consensus for further action."

In rejecting requests for a November special session on the issue, House Speaker Kurt Zellers said public hearings should precede the proposal of any bill. Wednesday's announcement allows for the orderly achievement of that criteria.

Alright Zellers, I want a public hearing for EVERY SINGLE bill that goes through the legislature. If he doesn't want to give the stadium bill special treatment with a special session, why is he treating it specially?
