Re: Stadium thread
Probably have a 1.5 to 2 billion expansion fee by than, and at least 1.5 billion for a stadium with inflation. So to me it's pay 300 million now or 3 billion later.bigskyeric wrote:If it doesn't get done, and they move, I'm hoping the team changes it's name ASAP. That way, the bafoons of Minnesota can pay 3x's the amount to get the Vikings back. I see a sweet $3 billion dollar stadium being built in 2018. If not, we'll all be cheering for the Minnesota Snow, or maybe the Minnesota Loons or some other stupid name.Oh, wait....I'll have moved away from the state by then and won't ever be watching the NFL again. Similar to how I don't watch the NHL anymore after watching every Northstars game I could as a child. Welcome to Minnesota....Don't drink the water.
And a little nugget on the North Stars, that was out of anyone's hands, the NHL and Norm Greed teamed up to expand the NHL to the south. They knew an expansion team would be a losing team, so they knew it wouldn't work, they needed a win now franchise, and they knew an expansion team could work in the so called hockey state. That's why the state of Texas has multiple Stanley cups, and Minnesota has 0 still, and why I will not support the NHL no way no now.

I think they waited the appropriate amount of time to start strongarm-ing like this. I also think Dayton should call the special session with or without the votes. I'm not a Minnesotan (just born thereJaredAllenHavoc wrote:"I think its very obvious we want to be in LA. We would like to see a franchise there. Some of us have been working for most of our NFL careers to see if we can crack that code. I'll describe the key elements of that code, that have been difficult if not impossible to crack. We couldn't find a site, we couldn't find the financing, and we couldn't find the enabling legislation to get through the various road blocks. We now have two sites, We believe both those sites could be financed. One of those sites has landmark legislation that stream-lines the process. Don't know if it's shovel ready, but it's close. And, the second site is working on legislation to stream-line the process. So the missing element is now a franchise. In my memory, this is the first time when all elements except the franchise have been assembled." - Eric Grubman, NFL VP talking to Minneapolis press at the State Capitol 10/18/11

The problem is, alot of the legislators got elected because they said they would say no to any new tax. But your right, Dayton should call this no matter what.OkStateViking wrote: I think they waited the appropriate amount of time to start strongarm-ing like this. Having the Vikings leave under your vote isn't a recipe for staying in office.

I will take the Dome for $1 if the state wants to sell it so bad...

Which is exactly why they don't add any new taxes. There are numerous ways they can pay for this thing creatively.CCthebest wrote:The problem is, alot of the legislators got elected because they said they would say no to any new tax. But your right, Dayton should call this no matter what.

And they still will not be getting a stadium, let's be relastic, they should have done this years ago and this crap would not have happened, I would be shocked and I would eat my crow if they get a stadium deal done but I do not have much faith that they will get it done...thatguy wrote: Which is exactly why they don't add any new taxes. Re: Stadium thread
He doesn't want the Dome. It's the garbage. And would cost hundreds of millions to even bring up to the level necessary to actually make any money.

Re: Stadium thread
I think that's the idea. The Wilfs have pledge over $400M dollars toward the construction of a new stadium. If the Wilf's are willing to spend hundreds of millions, then spend it on the current stadium to bring it up to par. It's been done with many other stadiums. How many times have Lambeau and Soldier's fields been rebuilt?Demi wrote:And would cost hundreds of millions to even bring up to the level necessary to actually make any money.
Anyway, I highly doubt that it's nearly as attractive to the Wilfs as the amount of money that can be made from a completely new stadium and the real estate development surrounding it. I don't expect anyone to take the idea seriously.

Who is "they" in your sentence? Blame it all on the state, not the Vikings that's for sure.

Re: Stadium thread
Soldier Field was basically torn down and rebuilt. It cost almost $600M and that was 10 years ago (which, IIRC, is about what billy joe had a new stadium costing back then). The colonnades are still there, and there was some reuse of foundation and entrances and stuff like that, but that's simply not comparable to the dome.Eli wrote:How many times have Lambeau and Soldier's fields been rebuilt?
