CCthebest wrote:Of course its just lip service. He hasnt accomplished anything at all. The Reps never said they would. I think Dayton is afraid to do anything after the shutdown.
In what could be a precursor to a fall special session, Dayton directed Metropolitan Council Chairwoman Susan Haigh and his stadium point man, Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission Chairman Ted Mondale, to conduct a thorough analysis of the risks and costs associated with the site.

The goal is to remove "as many uncertainties as possible before a transaction is finalized," Dayton wrote in the letter, sent Wednesday.

Vikings Vice President Lester Bagley said the team appreciates the governor's move. "Once we get through this [review], we should be in a position to address the stadium issue this fall," Bagley said.

Mondale didn't discount that timetable, saying Dayton's review is an attempt to make the package stronger. "We're working to button up a deal as fast as possible," he said.
Oh hey look, he accomplished something. Why you continue to ignore it I don't know. And your defense for the republicans is "they never said they would". No, and you know what else? They're going out of their way to make sure a stadium doesn't get built. Whether it's just posturing or not, they're hurting the chances of it happening. Directly. And repeatedly. Trying to get it moved. Setting an amount and completely unwilling to budge. And then when they start getting progress with the help of the governor, they decide to try and threaten a referendum and kill ANY chance of it happening.

It's pretty clear where the lines have been drawn, and it's pretty clear some people are choosing to ignore them. And that's a big part of the reason politics are the mess they are.

Gov Ventura said we don't replace schools after 20 years so forget about stadium funding.

Gov Pawlenty said it was unacceptable to use ANY state money for the Twins stadium so the public subsidy came SOLELY from Hennepin County. In the key 2010 session when Pawlenty could have got this done as a lame duck, all he supported was a plan funded entirely by user fees, a dead horse.

Gov Dayton has said he'll support $300M ine state funding for the Vikings stadium. Yes, he's studying the details but the state money he supports is a huge step forward. Gov Dayton is a big reason this has ANY chance.

An EXCELLENT fan-written letter. Please read it and "sign" it in the comments and the Daily Norseman will send it in with signatures to the proper parties.

I am signing that as soon as I can. I cannot right now cause my account won't be active for another 24 hours! In the meantime, are there are any more petitions I can sign?

Sending an email to your legislator or even better, calling them, are just as helpful ways of making your voice heard. If you don't know what to say, savethevikes.org has a pre-made letter that they will email to your respective official(s).

Well I don't reside in the state of Minnesota I have been a college student here at Iowa and I am originally from South Dakota. I know these petitions usually mean little in the grand scheme of things, but I am willing to do anything possible to see this stadium through.

Nor do I. Savethevikes.org has a letter prepared specifically for out-of-state people trying to make their voice heard!

Its all up to Dayton really. He can call a special session right? He can push for the ramsey co. sales tax. Although if it passes theres a ton of pissed off old people that will hunt him down. But really, how much of a sales tax could there be? Maybe if even a liittle one couldnt the NFL and Wilfs toss in some more money? This is not the year to start out 0-3 with McNabb at the helm.

Honestly, I wonder how much this matters. It seems that those who oppose the issue could care less about the Vikings record. And those that are for it I can't imagine would be so turned off by this one season that they'd oppose a new stadium that would keep the Vikings around for the foreseeable future. While it probably is more encouraging and more of a story if the Vikings were undefeated, I doubt their record plays much of a part in negotiations. But I could be wrong.

Because if McNabb keeps playing like this, we will not sell out the Dome. I live in northwen MN. My friends are always looking are craiglist for tickets. Already this week, they really aernt looking as hard for the Cards game. With Fitz there usually all of them would be looking. Its just an example but if we cant fill the Dome, we are in more trouble then ever.

I dont think that this seasons 0-3 is a huge issue. But I do think if you look at BCs tenure, then add this season start, I could see how some could possibly question the Wilfs as owners or the direction the franchise is headed, long term.

I think, for the most part, Vikings/football fans would be in favor of the stadium, reguardless of the teams record, and those who are not fans, would oppose reguardless of record as well.

I question Wilfs' head coach selections, Brad sucks and so far Leslie is sucking

I think Zygi Wilf will be getting out of the football business very soon. Wonder if he's going to take a bath when he sells the team, given that he'll be shopping a really bad team with no stadium. I can't even imagine who'd want to buy them. Maybe it will end up being one of those 20 or 30 person ownership groups.

When it comes to a business any one that wants to move the team to LA would still make a good, quick profit off them.
