HornedMessiah wrote:Big win today to get the sweep. Slowey pitched a dang good game and I would've liked to see him stay in to try to get the no-hitter, but I think pulling him after the 7th was probably a good idea because he was starting to get sloppy. He was obviously getting tired; this was the first game he pitched in almost two weeks plus he rarely goes deep into a game anyway. Great performance though.

Quite a few good plays in the field today too. Kubel and Repko both robbed Crisp of an extra-base hit with leaping catches at the warning track, and Casilla made a few good plays at SS.

This upcoming series at home against the White Sox is huge. The Sox are reeling right now, 3 games behind the Twins and lost 7 of their last 10. I think with a series win, the Twinkies will cement their post-season status. Who knows though, even if the ChiSox lose the series they'll probably still make it a race until the very end.

This time I actually agree with Gardy taking Slowey out. I would have put Crain in rather than Raush, since Crain has been unbelievable in the last few months. Then bring Capps in for the 9th. Anyway, great sweep, and hopefully we can continue the roll against the Sox this week, and then the Angels after that. I hope we aren't peaking too early only to fall in September or October.

So now, when it is obvious to everyone and their brother that Scott Baker has crap stuff tonight, Gardenhire leaves him in even after the White Sox tie the game. All of his pitches are belt high or higher. All of them. He doesn't know how to throw it low.

The Twins need Paul Molitor to coach the baserunning. If Young slides there, he is safe but he decides to challenge probably the biggest catcher in the game. I hope that run doesn't come back to haunt them.

Not only that one, but earlier in the game when Thome tried to score from 1st and was tagged out to end the inning. Did the 3rd base coach not realize who he was waving through to home? They seriously need to do a job evaluation on that coach, because he's really made some poor decisions in the second half of the season.

Great ending to the game though. Thome the Lumberjack gets the first walk-off HR at Target Field.

I agree great ending. Thome was the best signing the Twins have had in a long, long time. I hope he continues to produce all year liks he has so far!

Yea, thinking Thome is going to score from first was a terrible decision. Youngs attempt I understand, sort of. It was a very fun game to watch for me, but I dont like Baker, at all. Even if he is throwing well, all of a sudden one inning (could be the first, could be the eighth) he gets completely lit up for 2-6 runs/hits. He is the pitcher I trust the least. Hope for another exciting game tonight, whoever doesnt love Thome, cant like baseball, he is class all the way, and a total stud at the plate.

At the Sox game last thursday, he grounded out one time, it was a decent defensive play, and a guy behind me got excited. I turned to him and said "you do realize that was Thome, and just about anyone else runs that out, right?" "oh? yeah, you're right. hey, it was still a good throw!"

I agree, gotta love thome, but man, the guy has no wheels.

I remember that play, the Sox announcers were going crazy about it. Anyone else in the history of the game coupld have beat that out. Heck, even Thome almost beat it out.

The umpires terrible call on Span could have costed us that game. Instead of his HR being a two run homer to tie it, it was a solo and we were still down a run. The Umps this season seem to be doing a pretty terrible job, as they said on the telecast last night, it wasnt even that close of a call. Luckily it didnt matter.

It was disgusting. These umpires aren't even paying attention anymore. I wish more of them would get fined for this crap.

We were down 5-3, Span hit a slow infield hit, the short stop (maybe 2nd baseman) rushed to ball and threw it to first, Span easily had the throw beat, wasnt even close, he was called out. Two batters later Mauer hit a HR. Instead of being a tie game if Span was on base, we were still down a run. Close calls are one thing, this was not even close, and could have eaily cost the Twins the game, luckily, it didnt.
