Re: Stadium thread
Well, people can sign a multimillion dollar leases on unpopular stadiums but they can't get anywhere really on a new stadium in half a decade? Man, if only the Vikings would have won that Super Bowl 10 odd years ago this wouldn't even be a discussion.

If the Vikes lose in the first round........
If the Vikes are one and done and there are zero prospects for a new stadium, Wilf will certainly move his team after next year and who could blame him.
Seems as if the fan's hatered of Childress and he will be the coach for at least the next 3 years, supersedes any thing he might have built or accomplished. Maybe by that time the State could acquire a new team and start over with a new coach like Shanahan, Tomlin, Gruden or whoever (anyone but Chilly)
New stadium, different fan base, more revenue to 'buy" better players.
Since I no longer live in Mankato I couldn't care less where they move to I will still be a loyal fan.
With the unrelenting negativity across the Viking fan base I say it is definately time for a move.
Do what the Rams did when they moved to Saint Louis be appreciated supported and win a Super Bowl.
I mean really go.

Funny how the "unrelenting negativity" appears after the Vikings seem committed to ruining their season by lackluster play. Who'da predicted that happening?mountainman wrote:If the Vikes are one and done and there are zero prospects for a new stadium, Wilf will certainly move his team after next year and who could blame him.

I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!
Re: Stadium thread
It does make you wonder if Wilf told Chilly to tank the season so he can move this team easier. I'm sure he's fed up with the resistance for a new stadium.
Who knows maybe they decided "Major League 4" will switch from baseball to football and be a reality show instead of paying actors.

While negativity is surely not appreciated by some...you just need to make sure you get your facts straight. He can't move it next year...or the year after that...mountainman wrote:If the Vikes are one and done and there are zero prospects for a new stadium, Wilf will certainly move his team after next year and who could blame him.

After that though, that's when he's free to do whatever...
I don't live in Minny anymore but I would be heartbroken if they ever left b/c I have so many great memories of going to Vikes games with my family there...
The Vikings belong in Minnesota...it goes beyond football at this point...

I just don't see why hes allowed to make good fan / bad fan posts one after another for the past 4 months.thatguy wrote: While negativity is surely not appreciated by some...you just need to make sure you get your facts straight. He can't move it next year...or the year after that...

And yes he's on my foe list but people take the troll bait and quote him so bleh.

^How was that good fan bad fan? He talked about negativity in the fanbase and that's what I was talking about! I just wanted to make sure he had his facts straight.

A lot of "moderation" is done behind the scenes, via warnings, PM's, etc. Just because something isn't done publicly does not mean it is being ignored.
I'm not talking about this situation in particular but thought I should point that out since its come up a few times.
If anyone feels a post is in violation of the board rules, there's a report button in the lower right corner of every post (red exclamation mark). Use that. It makes it easier for us to find the post and it doesn't derail the thread. That doesn't necessarily mean we'll always do something just because a report was made, but it's a good way to get our attention. (There's a lot of threads to read through
)
Anyway, enough of this there's enough Chili talk in other threads, lets get this discussion back to the Stadium issue.

Deal was made in clearer economic times and when it was the only stadium to be built...then TCF bank got approved...so people are left wondering...when will the stadiums stop?Boon wrote:I dont live in minnesota either but one thing puzzles me....

Re: Stadium thread
How the miserable Goofers got a stadium is way beyond me. They never sold out the Dome in all the years they played there. Yet the Vikings are left stranded!!! What a joke. Shame on the $#%%^$# that made that happen.thatguy wrote: Deal was made in clearer economic times and when it was the only stadium to be built...then TCF bank got approved...so people are left wondering...when will the stadiums stop?

^While I'm not trying to offend anyone, when I lived in Minny (12 years), I never met anyone who was all in for Gophers football like you the Longhorn and Buckeye fans you see...that was just me, but I never really thought Gopher football attracted that many superfans other than those that were currently attending or had recently attended...just what I saw...

Re: Stadium thread
The Twins did a terrible job of promoting their stadium cause in the 1990s with offensive commercials and misleading threats to move to North Carolina. But in the 2000s they finally put a winning plan together. My take is that two things helped them immeasurably. They put a smart, well-respected executive in charge of the effort (Jerry Bell). They found a local partner (Hennepin County).Boon wrote:I dont live in minnesota either but one thing puzzles me....

The Vikings had a viable local partner (Anoka County) at the time the Twins and Gophers stadium bill passed and the state legislature asked them to come back the next year with a firmed up plan and the legislature would consider it. The Vikings at the time chose instead to go back to Minneapolis and hung Anoka County out to dry. Anoka County dropped out shortly thereafter. The Vikings biggest problem is that they don't take two key components of a stadium push seriously. They are as follows. They have not taken seriously the idea of finding a local partner, instead saying it's all up to the state, which is not tenable with current state politics. The second problem is that they have not put smart people in charge of their stadium push, leaving the stadium inexplicably in the hands of Lester Bagley, a holdover from the Red McCombs era and past threats to relocate that the fans do not respect at all. Things might change now that Zygi Wilf is more vocally taking the stadium push to the road.
A disappointing finish to the season on the field will hurt as much as anything. But a trip to the Super Bowl will help out more than anything. Both are still quite possible. Just my take.
Re: Stadium thread
That's prob. the best explanation for all of the things...Wilf did the best things by saying he would never move the stadium...while there's nothing to hold him to his promise @ the end of his lease...it's good to know that he at least respects the fans' feelings...CalVike wrote: The Twins did a terrible job of promoting their stadium cause in the 1990s with offensive commercials and misleading threats to move to North Carolina.
