On nfl network. Dru Pearson cheated game. Same as always the announcers are in love with the cowboys. I forgot how much I hated their stupid resetting before the snap.

What sucks is that I thought the Vikings are going to win it all that year, it was their best team besides the 1998 team

This caused the 1st time my mom heard me drop the F bomb. I was 10 ( just about to turn 11). Dad and I were watching the game. I would have had my Vikes P.J.s and JC Penney helmet on as I always did.I was bawling my after the PPO.... Pearson Push Off.. and a mess. The phone rang and Mom came in said someone is on the phone for you. It was one of my older cousins. When I picked up the phone he said " GO COWBOYS!!". I yelled F... You Steve , slammed the phone down and ran back into the living room crying. Mom came in and said to Dad " Did you hear what he said?". I vividly remember Dad said " Just leave him alone!" Dad had my back cuz he was as mad as I was.. he just wasn't crying. We still all laugh about it when we all get together.

A few years ago there was a thread about the best Viking team of all time and it was interesting. That 98 team had a great season and was lead by rookie Randy Moss. He scored 17 TDs which is an incredible number. But IMO that 2009 team was a better overall team just based on having a HOF QB. That 2009 loss was more heat breaking for me. Watching that game and the refs allowing the Saints to try and end Farve's career or cripple him was sickening. That team was stacked with talent across the board starting at the most important position.

The 98 team was one of the best in history, at least offensively. Not sure where the 2009 team ranked among the best, but the 98 team was the most offensively dominant Vikings team I've ever seen. Defensively they were pretty average, but they were helped by the incredible pressure the offense created on opposing teams to try to keep up.

I'd say several of the 70's Vikings teams were better defensively than both the 98 and 2009 teams and those too were among the better defensive teams in NFL history. They were in some ways the mirror image of the 98 team in that regard - great, game-altering defense that a more middling offense could work with to win a lot of games.

The 2009 team did have some amazing athletes and performances though. I'll never forget the late Favre heave to Greg Lewis against the 49ers. That team had two of the most amazing individual athletes in AP and Percy Harvin and of course Brett Favre played like his much younger self for most of that season. The defense wasn't dominant but it was good. The Saints did target Favre in that game but I felt the reason they lost were all the self-inflicted mistakes. Way too many fumbles and the late 12 men penalty followed by Favre throwing across his body instead of taking the safe 5 yard out to Berrian.

I agree 98 was considered one of the greatest offenses of all time and it helped the D because of the leads we would get. I was never a fan of Cunningham but he had the best year of his career in 98. Signed a big contract and fell off the table in 99. Basically done. We only scored 1 TD the 2nd half and that lost the champ game. What you posted about AP and Harvin in 2009 is correct. Both incredible athletes. That offensive line was great lead by HOFer Hutch. We had big players upfront like Loadholt and Mckinney. That defense had some great talent with the Williams pair at DT and Allen at DE. But Farve was the leader of that team. I remember that throw to Lewis also. That got the team rolling and believing in Farve. Every player knew we were in every game with Farve. They all had his back and would play hard for him. That's a leader of men right there. He would take risk but was never afraid to fire it into a crowd. Berrian and Rice were decent WR's also. 2009 and 1986 are probably tied as my favorite seasons. The loss to the Saints and Redskins were hard to take. They are also considered classic games. I liked Gibbs and that H Back offense. He was a true offensive genius.
