Mike Hughes traded to KC

Looks like we swapped picks in the 6th and 7th. Basically peanuts. So for whomever was saying we don't know if the guy is a bust, this removes all doubt. I'd have to think they're looking at a FA as Gladney can't be counted on.

I was posting the same thing, but got interrupted by work in the middle of doing it so you beat me to it. I will see if I can delete mine or have a mod delete it for me. Here is what I posted.
We have Traded Hughes and our own 2022 7th round pick to the Chiefs for their 6th round pick. As close to giving away for free as it gets. I'm confused about how much cap savings we get, but not much..

Wow they must have absolutely no confidence in him at all. I thought he’d have a spot at least until (or if) Gladney returns
I assumed he would be 4th in depth chart (sans Gladney) but now I wonder if they have Hand or even Boyd ahead of him on the depth chart???

Here are cap implications -
($1.8 million created with $1.3 million in dead money)

It is very disappointing since Hughes was a first round pick

Not much different than what was said...
My first thought..what a waste, we give up a first round for nothing much accomplished. Move from a 7th to a 6th.
With ITV being KC, that 6th will be almost equivalent to a high 7th

Speilman must be pissed giving up that 7th rounder.

I'm a little surprised the Vikings traded him as I thought he'd get his chance to shine this year and if he didn't make the grade they'd just cut him, but it looks like he didn't even make it that far.

And there goes the last of the Zimmer's 1st round CBs.
I wonder if that injury lingered with Hughes or if this was always where he was headed.

What I read in the Strib was that KC had two 6th round picks, Vikings get the higher of KCs 6th round picks which would likely be the pick KC got from the Ravens. Given the Ravens were 11-5 last year and expected to be in the playoff hunt that 6th rounder will fall later in the 6th round.
My guess is the Vikings must have concerns about Hughes cervical injury remaining an ongoing problem. If healthy he is perfectly capable of contributing defensively.

I was just thinking that same thing.
For a supposed cornerback guru, Zimmer's track record for drafting them, at least with the Vikings, isn't stellar. The only first-round corner who had any real success under Zimmer was Rhodes, and Zimmer didn't draft him.
No wonder he says you can never have enough corners.

How much cap do we now have ???
Do you think that this is an attempt to create room also for say... Richard Sherman? Or the WR from Jax?
Put Sherman in with Peterson, Dantzler, Gladney?, Boyd, Hand... would definitely change the secondary look.

Once the cap savings on Rudolph hit in June they should have enough capital to make another signing. That would also take into consideration any deals they might make with their own players. (Hunter)

Waynes, Mack and possibly Dantzler are solid CBs. The value wasn't really there for how high Waynes was picked, but he was good enough to get a massive second contract.

To clarify, I was mainly talking about first-rounders. Waynes would be a good example of someone who was drafted too high. But yeah, he's fine, although not worth the money Cincy is paying him.
Dantzler is an example of a great value pick and a feather in the cap of Zimmer and Spielman. Mack in the second is solid, too.
On balance, though, the first-round CBs chosen under Zimmer — Waynes, Hughes and Gladney — have not proven to be an impressive group.
