Trading down

Many have discussed trading down in the first round in the hope of adding a 2nd round pick. Any trade that happens will go down while the Vikings are on the clock, and of course be dependent on who is there and what team might covet them. Not to mention it is possible somebody is there the Vikings consider too good to pass up.
Looking at teams to partner with is the tough part. I could see Washington, Carolina, or Baltimore as potential partners. The downside is they are picking later in the draft and a 2nd round pick would be less valuable. Baltimore has 2 1st round picks, but they will not part with both of those for #14.
In the 1st round the Vikings can address edge or OL even towards the end of the 1st round. But who will dance with the Vikings and swap 1st round slots plus their 2nd round pick?

There should be activity. Baltimore is in an interesting spot. Jackson is at contract time. The price of starting QBs is sky rocketing so for an MVP it's 50-60 million and maybe more. Do they want to commit that much CAP? Or do they come down in the draft for another rookie deal guy. Bill B has been active. Do the 49ers need Grap anymore? There could be something between those two. I feel a very good player will be there at 14. But I'd hate to get into the 20s for a low 2nd rounder. The talent level between 20s and 14 is dramatic. Especially this year. Davis Mills is the guy I want now. He will need to sit which to me is no big deal for us. I don't object going down but I'd prefer the 2 hole. You control the game from that spot. Speilman will do something. Down is usually his favorite move. I do expect that one.

I think Baltimore feels they have their QB. No reason to think about giving up on Jackson when they are close to being a SB team. Yes he will be in line for a big contract, but he is young and a dynamic QB.
To me the interesting thing about dealing with Baltimore would be if the Vikings give them #14 and their #78 pick in the 3rd would that be enough for Baltimore to part with their two 1st round picks? That presumes there is someone Baltimore wants sitting there at #14. That would allow the Vikings to get an edge DE and there will still likely be a couple OL on the board deserving of a 1st round pick.
There are always surprises, but finding the right trading partner is never easy.
In the end it may well turn out that the best move is none at all. Take the BPA at #14, edge, OL, or CB all fill important positions for the Vikings. There is reason to believe value will be found in the 3rd with their two picks.

Baltimore has incentive to move up. The Ravens need a No. 1 receiver very badly. I think they might be open to a deal to give them a chance at Jaylen Waddle or Devona Smith.
From a draft points perspective, our 14 pick is worth 1,100 points, while Baltimore's 27 and 31 are worth 1,280. So we're only 180 points off. Give them 78, and you might have a deal.

I only mention Jackson because I read some things about Baltimore moving on. Of course that was an opinion but I could see it happening. Once they give the CAP space it's hard to get it back. His playoff performances haven't been the best so far. If a team offers the farm who knows. Based on the Chiefs snap OL rebuild they should be golden again. Who can challenge them. IMO there main concern should be banging Mahomes into the line on a 3rd and 1 option play. They may not get so lucky the next time. That non concussion may have impacted his Super Bowl performance. No move could be the best move. I feel 14 will have a very good player available at a position of need which is mainly across the board. Even a top WR will be hard to pass up.

I think the only way they have offers to deal down is if one of the five Qb or three WR are avail. Really could have used that 2nd rounder.
I wonder if someone would take 78 and the first 4th for a 2nd?

Don't know about Baltimore, but around here one close playoff win in 3 seasons is good enough for a fully guaranteed 2 year extension.

There's only one more year left. Then we can move on to TJack II or Teddy II or Ponder II. That should get people excited. Be some empty seats once the fans realize completing a pass beyond 10 yards is almost impossible. Hopefully Speliman picks a guy with some skills this year. There's enough extra picks to move up and do it. Time will tell.
