and now they took the best available at this point. we shall see if bridgewater plays out, but to know that information now it seems like we only took a qb because we felt like we had to. no other reason whatsoever. if we had bridgewater on our board we would have taken him at 8. at this point, to me, we took him because he was all that was left.

If they wanted the JFB circus, they would have picked him at 9. They didn't. Rumor is they tried to trade up later for him. Luckily that didn't work out.

We'll see. Higher upside, but Bridgewater is clearly safer pick. And we came out of it with Bridgewater, and a top flight type prospect!!!

with all due respect purplekoolaid: i just read on espn the vikes tried to make a move up for manziel. i usually take their opinion they follow this crap every minute of our lives. it appears we wanted manziel, but swung and missed and now we are stuck with bridgewater. and i'm not saying he won't be good, but its evident that we wanted manziel. we wanted him later but we still wanted him.

Was just about to say the same thing. Spielman declined to comment on it when asked by a reporter so for all we know, they wanted 22 to get Bridgewater and couldn't find another trade partner until seattle was willing at #32.

Even so, I think it was much more Manziel 1A and Bridgewater 1B. I think those were the two QB's we were interested in and both rated closely together. Bridgewater was the #1 QB or even pick a few months ago and I just don't believe we "panic picked" him at #32... I think that was a calculated move to get past Houston and Oakland.

This. Somebody caught wind that the Vikings were talking to the Eagles about a trade and then the Browns swooped in to snag it away and took Manziel. So that person reported something true and then added in a little speculation. I find it hard to believe that they would've wanted Manziel over Bridgwater.

apparently you have all read something i haven't. fact is bridgewater is the 3rd qb picked overall and our franchise has to be one of the worst of all times at drafting qbs. in fact, i know we are its a fact not a question. who is our greatest draft qb, culpepper? where did his life go after moss LOL.

You don't see the fallacy in your logic?

actually at this point, answer my question who is the best qb we've ever drafted???????????????? culpepper, and that is the truth and its pathetic and shameful. they wanted manziel and we f---ed up its been reported all over every network. my question is this, why trade up for bridgewater when no one wanted him???? nobody wanted this guy.

Why did the Browns trade up for Manziel? Clearly at pick #22 no one wanted him either!

Sigh....

I find it hard to believe we wanted Manziel over Teddy when you consider Norvs system. That would have been a huge mistake IMO. Teddy fits better than Manziel. I think we got the right guy and I'm stoked we finally got a pocket passer. Love how Teddy keeps his eyes down field, and steps up into the pocket when he throws. Unlike a lot of these "mobile" QB's who panic after their first read and look to escape the phantom pressure and run right away.

But I think this guy summed up the situation best in the draft thread lol.

Right, Bridgewater is going to suck simply because the Vikings have a history of drafting bad QB's. And that's funny, Culpepper had his best season in '04 (4717 YDS and 39 TD's) when Moss only played 13 games and caught 49 passes for 767 yards and 13 TD's.

No body wanted Russell Wilson, or drew brees, or Tom Brady, etc. of course until some team decided, you know, that they did want them and took them

What makes you think nobody wanted Bridgewater? For all we know Houston was set to take him tomorrow at #33. Someone wanted bridgewater.... The vikings, bad enough to trade up for him. Nobody wanted manziel til Cleveland picked him.

Saying nobody wanted him because he wasn't taken in the first 31 picks is just silly. Should every player not drafted in the first round start applying for jobs? Because apparently no NFL team wants them

Bridgewater would have been gone before our next pick if we waited to the second round. I have a good feeling he would have been in Houston if we didn't make that jump.

Guess that means tomorrow, nobody should draft Carr, Marquis Lee, Jean Baptist and 64 other guys, because "Nobody Wanted Him" today. I think the Vikings and other teams felt that other prospects were better than the QBs available, so they took their chances at other positions. Its been reported over and over this year, that once you got out of the top 10, that most teams didn't have much of a need for QB. Everyone also knows that Cleveland, MN, Jax, Oakland, Houston are QB needy teams, and will eventually draft a QB this year. So towards the end of the round, with all of the other teams going to be picking again, the only way we were going to get the best, was to move up. Im personally glad that we fell short on JFB, if indeed that was their move with the Phili trade.
