Mallett has the type of talent that could lead a franchise to new heights. And in Norv Turner's Air Coryell offense Mallett is a perfect fit because he can chuck the ball 70 yards off his back foot, accurately i might add. He's got the arm to make any throw you ask him and he's a fairly smart mind as well. 3 years behind Brady should have done plenty to fix his attitude problem.

What would you think of this?

Round 1: LB Khalil Mack
Round 2: CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste
Round 3: LB Shayne Skov
Round 3: Traded for Ryan Mallett
Round 4: S Craig Loston
Round 5: DT Daniel McCullers
Round 6: OG Michael Schofield
Round 7: DE Ben Gardner

Send a 3rd from this year and a conditional 4th next year for Mallett. That way we can focus entirely on defense in the draft and free agency, screw Matt Cassel and taking a shot on a rookie.

This has already been discussed in another thread about trading for Mallet but have you seen any indication that he might be worth banking the immediate future on him. I sure have not.

Mallett's accuracy and decision making are questionable at best. He's shown little to nothing in the preseason for me to want to spend what you suggest. He's on the last year of his contract. If Spielman traded a third this year PLUS a conditional fourth, frankly, I'd question his sanity. I wouldn't offer anything more than maybe a fifth, and I'd have low expectations.

I honestly don't know why people are so sold on the guy.

Havent been on in months. Kinda missed alot of stuff. Just sharing a thought.

I've been high on Mallett since the 2011 draft. The kid has some of the best arm talent i've ever seen. Personally i think he'd be worth a 3rd, others think NE wouldnt take that low of a pick.

I know this will likely get me flamed, but I would be on board. I liked Mallett in 2011, I still like him. I watched a lot of him at Arkansas and his arm talent is certainly top notch. Don't have as many issues with his decision-making as some on this board. You're going to get a lot of people coming in here with these arguments:

- "If the Patriots are willing to trade him, he is not a guy you can build around!"

- "He hasn't done enough in preseason to warrant trading a pick for him!"

I don't think the Patriots are infallible. And even if they were, it may be out of their hands. I don't think they feel Brady is going to retire this offseason or even the following offseason - Mallet is only under contract for one more year and will likely leave in free agency after that, considering he will probably want to play, and he's not doing much of that behind Brady. They may realize they should get what they can for him now, or he's going to walk come next offseason. The only problem with my theory would be compensatory draft picks, but that is not a sure thing and they wouldn't get that pick until 2016, when Brady actually might start considering retirement. Again, the Patriots are not infallible.

As far as his preseason work, he's shown flashes of his enormous upside. Are you guys watching the games, looking at statistics, or? Because I liked what I saw the couple times I have had a chance to watch him. To be honest, I'd feel safer trading our later third round pick for Mallet than drafting any of the quarterbacks we could get in that area of the draft. The only downside is his age (25, hardly a downside, but still) and his contract situation. To me, Mallett should have been the first QB drafted in 2011. I think he will be better than any of the quarterbacks available with the 96th (?) pick. This is just my opinion, based on the eyeball test, but I think he's going to be a good quarterback.

I'm not "predicting" the Vikings will go ahead and trade the later 3rd round pick for him, but I can say I'd be happy with it if they did.

Stats and what I've read. He was called "one of the biggest disappointments in Patriots training camp" in 2012. By all accounts he did improve but barely beat out Brian Hoyer to be Brady's backup. One of his last preseason games he was 9-18 for 97 yards (5.39 ypa) against an awful Eagles team. He's got a cannon, though, that's for sure.

I think Mallet is worth 3rd. He was the QB i wanted the Vikings to draft instead of Ponder but it is what it is. From what I seen in his highlights, he is a pretty good QB. He will never reach his full potential playing behind Brady. I would love to get him. He's only 25, and he looks like the type of QB Norv Turner can mold into a franchise guy like he did Philip Rivers.

As mentioned, Mallet has accuracy and decision making issues. However, I'd love if he was on the Vikings so they can give him a shot. Although, they'd have to give up a good amount to get him. Bill doesn't just fork over players. He's usually really crafty about winning in trades, so I'd rather they just stay away.

Regardless...If they get a QB on a current roster right now, they still need to draft a QB in my opinion. The only thing that changes up is where they may draft him.
