But did you see that 25 yard strike to Simpson between 2 defenders on 3rd n 9 that Ponder couldn't make in a zillion years? Ponder had a decent game, again by his standards, but he still relies way too much on the TE. Hardly anything to the WR's again. I mean come on, we got some weapons for him and he still can't find em. It's ridiculous. Cassel comes in and like the Steelers game, he has no problem finding the WR's.

Did you see the zip top Wright while Ponder was on the run? They both excel in different situations, unfortunately Ponder tends to excel in risky, or unwanted situations.

113.1 isn't just a decent game. Give credit where credit is due. Ponder played awesome regardless. Yes Cassel made a throw that Ponder most likely wouldn't have made. But I think its thanks to Musgrave for giving both QB plays that they could run. Ponder play well with his style of play.

Ponder impressed me tonight. He had a bad first series but after that, I thought he actually kept them in the game. He gave them a great effort, completed a high percentage of his passes, converted key third downs and helped finish drives. I hope he's not hurt badly. It would be just his luck to have his best game of the season and then get seriously injured.

Cassel made a few nice throws, especially that pass to Simpson, which was a beauty. I didn't like the choice to throw short of the down marker on the play that set up Walsh's last FG though. I don't know if that was Cassel or the play call but I would have liked to see more effort to pick up a first down.

Anyway, both QBs delivered in this game and that's good news.

I hope your next passer rating thread has an even higher passer rating as it's title.

Great, efficient game by Ponder. Comes out throws a terrible pick and has a stupid sack. The best thing he could do was forget about it and move on...which he did! SKOL

Assuming Ponder comes back soon, it won't be long before we see the old Ponder again. We've seen good games out of him before and they never last for more than a game or two in a row.


With that said, those trying to take anything away from the game he played today is just looking for reasons to hate. Yes he had one bad INT and a few throws here or there that were pretty bad, but overall it was a very good game.

Although Cassel's pass was very nice. That's a pass we don't see from Ponder because Ponder doesn't have the confidence to attempt that kind of throw

Uh, Ponder had a couple throws tonight that outdid Cassel's in my mind. That one where he scrambled through the blitz and hit Jarius Wright on the sideline comes to mind.

I guess we have very different definitions of the word "zip" and "excel" lol, but yes that was a nice pass too. He had several nice passes tonight. But in every single Ponder start this year the announcers have ripped Ponder for the exact same things. Late, soft, under thrown, behind, to high, didn't see someone wide open. In other words, he's not learning and progressing. Like the fail mary vs Dallas, that deep under thrown rainbow for a pick on the opening drive was an abomination.

I agree - Ponder had a good game and he really gets credit for the win. Kudos to Cassel for stepping up and "padding the win" with his clutch plays (coming into the game "cold" is tough and he looked like he hit his stride pretty quickly).

I too, was disappointed in the "check down" pass and wondered if that wasn't the 'conservative' (settle for FG, rather than turn the ball over) philosophy of the offense again. It would have been nice to 'ice' the game right then with a TD. But any win is a good win, so I'll take it...

Yeah. Can't necessarily blame wanting to be conservative once you got into field goal range from a QB that got ravaged against Carolina. Loved that they pushed the ball with Cassel and started milking the clock at appropriate moments.
