Can somebody transplant Jeff George's arm onto Ponder?

I just hope we don't end up with a bad QB with a weak arm.................AND a new found bad attitude.

I thought this was a friggen joke. Wow... If they said they were bringing in a QB to mentor Ponder I don't think I would of said George all day.

Edit: not to say Jeff was bad or anything but I don't think they're even remotely similar QB's to even make it worth it. I can picture George gluing Ponders feet in place teaching him how to take sacks while looking for some DEEP throws or something.

Hah, this is just a way for ol' Jeff to get his foot in the door. He wants to play, wasn't it just a couple years ago that he was saying he wanted to come back and play QB for us?

George had excellent mechanics in addition to his strong arm. He was a fundamentally sound QB in terms of his technique. Ponder struggles with that aspect of his game. If George's role is solely to observe and advise, I think he could offer a lot of good advice to a guy like Ponder who tends to struggle the most with that aspect of his game IMHO.

Jeff George did have a rocket arm and wasn't really known for intellectualizing the game. How he's going to mentor Ponder is still something of a mystery but we'll have to see how it works.

jeff George was let go prematurely by the Vikings imo. probably the best team he was on. he did have a bad attitude however like jay cutler.

Bet hes just trying to get a tryout because he thinks he can still play...

That's a great point and the report said he was just going to help out for a few days so it's not as if he's becoming Ponder's new spirit guide.

I read that part of Goerge's presence was to gauge whether or not he had any fire for coaching. Regardless, the guy was a really good QB IMO and played on some of the worst Colts teams ever. With the beatings he took vs the talent he had I can understand his descending attitude toward things. His season here in Minny was pretty amazing. Anything he can offer Ponder is a plus.

Yeah, he was drafted by the Colts during the Robert Irsay era. One of the worst owners in the history of the NFL, IMO. Things weren't much better with the Falcons or Raiders, although he did get Atlanta into the playoffs.

Still, I (only) half-jokingly wonder if George isn't angling for a tryout.

You bet. George seems to be a perfect fit for talking mechanics with Ponder, who definitely needs some help in that area. I think a misconception about George is that he had a strong arm and nothing else. That's not how I remember him. Ponder is a bright guy but he is inconsistent with his fundamentals and sometimes makes bad decisions. George is the right guy to coach him on some of those things.

That said, I agree with Kapp about George. When I first heard he was at the Vikings OTAs, I had the nagging feeling that he was looking to try out for the QB job.
