Vikings have renegotiated Kevin Williams' contract, dropping base to $4.9M and deleting 2014 off deal, per source. More details to come. The $4.9 million base salary is fully guaranteed, source said. He also has a $100K workout bonus. Free agent after the season.

So, the restructed saves the Vikings $2.5 million in salary cap space. They're now about $6.913 million under their adjusted cap of $129.152 million.
Edit: he was due $7.5 million.

Hmmm... :?
Arguably the #Vikings' top four defensive linemen -- Jared Allen, Brian Robison, Everson Griffen and Kevin Williams -- all UFAs after 2013.

Very glad we got him restructured. Now we need to make a deal with Robison and Allen. I don't think that Robison has peaked just quite yet either.. hes a solid player. Obviously Allen is a great, he was hurt all of last year. Hopefully Allen comes back strong this year.

Sigh. I am glad we have cap room now, but... this inevitably means that he will be gone. Kevin Williams is my favorite player currently, and is my second favorite of all time (Moss is number one). I always wore my Kevin Williams authentic jersey to every game I attended in the Metrodome, the exceptions being this year because I lost a bunch of weight and I had to wore my old Moss jersey to the 49ers game this year.

I am gonna miss Kevin Williams. I hope he tears it up one last time as a Viking this season.

Well, that explains why they may be more interested in drafting a three-technique DT than a nose tackle.

I'll be very interested in seeing how Spielman plans to handle the d-line next year. My guess is K. Williams will be gone, they'll make a big effort to retain Griffen and we'll either see a full court press to keep Allen or they'll decide he's too expensive and they'll work to retain Robison. Since those two are basically the same age, my guess is Allen will be the priority, simply because he's a leader on defense, he's been the better player and Griffen could then take over on the left side.

Man, if everybody decided to leave the team it could be a defensive line apocalypse for the Vikes!

My guess is they are setting the table for that with this move. Not sure if they'll be able to keep all 3 of those guys on the DL. No rest for the wicked in the Salary Cap era.

Well out of all 3 they have to keep griffen imo, the youngest of the bunch, with a ton of talent, then preferably Allen, unless it's going to cost twice as much as robinson, though even then I'd probably rather have Allen.

Williams gave up a lot of money. I'm a little surprised, because the Vikings don't have anyone better at DT. This makes DT an even bigger priority in the draft now, and probably why the Vikings wanted to get the contract restructured before.

But it's now all guarenteed right? I guess I don't know how much of the other deal wasn't to compare.

Too bad this wasn't a week earlier and we could re-talk with winfield. Maybe they have something else in mind though.

I'm guessing they have draft pick and camp roster signings in mind.

I doubt they have much else in mind except for having enough cap space to sign the incoming rookies.

A vested veteran's salary is guaranteed if he's on the roster for week 1. So essentially if he makes the team his $7M base salary would be guaranteed. It's that collective bargaining clause that says they still have to pay his full salary if they cut him, or if he's released and then goes to another team and is paid a lesser salary, his previous team pays the difference.

More power to um if they want to pay all our old players with a year or two left, maybe they could get Childress to coach the team too!
