Everson Griffen's mom passed away. That's why he was absent. Tough deal. #Vikings
Griffen's mom was visiting. Eden Prairie PD delivered the news. Frazier said he didn't know cause of death. Totally unexpected. #Vikings

FYI: He's out indefinitely and free to return on his own timetable. Apparently the police told him what happened in Frazier's office. Team gathered around him at his house to offer support. Tragic stuff.

Vikings head coach Brad Childress fined his then receiver Troy Williamson for missing a week of practice to attend his grandmother's funeral

Frazier said he didn’t know when Griffen would rejoin the team, leaving that up to him.

“It’s purely up to him when,” Frazier said. “There’s no timetable. I explained that to him,” Frazier said. “He needs to go through the grieving process properly and don’t be thinking about football. Just doing whatever he needs to do away from football. His mom was very, very close to him. This is going to be a tough deal for him.”
Classy move by Frazier.

Sometimes it's good to be a "players" coach as Frazier understands how hard it is the play football when something else is on your mind. It'll suck not (potentially) having him for a however many games he misses because he makes plays when he gets the chance to play.

But best of wishes to him, and his family.

Looks like he will be playing after all.

On Wednesday, the mother of Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen died suddenly while visiting Griffen in Minnesota. On Friday, Griffen rejoined the team — and he is expected to play on Sunday.
Go FSU Everson. He is one of my current favorite Vikings on the team.

It may very well help him get his mind off it by playing. Lots of guys have said that in the past.
