It was awesome watching Brock use Couture's head as a basketball in the 2nd round. Brock totally controlled the whole fight! Brock is an animal! The sky is the limit for this guy!

Yes, what a proud day for the sport. A true mixed martial artist loses to a steroid-ridden freak with little fight experience. The aforementioned artist, Randy Couture, was 45 years old when he lost on Saturday. 10 years ago, he wouldn't have.

It was Coutoure's fault. He decided to try to cash in, and didn't fight for 14 months. The UFC just used another "legend" to sell their chosen fighter.

Wow talk about sour grapes. Lesnar has been training in MMA for over 2 years and has 4 professional fights. This after how many years in amateur wrestling? 13 or so i am guessing. BTW he was a Junior College Champ, a NCAA Heavyweight Runner-up and a NCAA Heavyweight Champion in 2000. Come to think of it didn't BJ Penn and Randy Couture both get title shots in there 4th MMA fight? Well yes they did! But i guess thats ok. As for the steroid thing i wont even comment on it. Everyone knows that the Athletic commissions drug test each fighter before and after the fights. Again sounds like sour grapes to me.

In TODAY's ultra-competitive UFC, it is extremely rare for someone with little MMA experience to get a title shot. In fact, I believe Big Nog (the interim heavyweight champion) should have fought Couture (the heavyweight champion) to reunify the belts before any challengers got a shot. To lump BJ Penn, who grew up in a family of martial artists, is a true martial artist, and has been practicing martial arts since a child, with Brock Lesnar, a wrestler (both NCAA and pro/fake) with little MMA experience, is ridiculous.
Like Demi said, it is ultimately Couture's fault for his actions over the last year and a half. Plus, he's just getting old. But Couture is 10x the FIGHTER that Brock is. If Brock were a real fighter, he would have ended the fight much more quickly. He has the size differential to do that if he knew what the hell he was doing. But I look at it from the more technical martial arts side and not the LCD caveman perspective others do.
As for steroids, a) Brock has undoubtedly used steroids in the past. If you don't believe that, I've got some land in the Everglades to sell ya. b) You don't have to currently use steroids to reap the benefits of past steroid use. He got freakishly big off of cheating the system, and is now Heavyweight champion because of it.
I put him in the same category as Shawn Sherk, another fighter I despise. Little technical skill, just brute strength and good ol' fashioned steroid use.
Can't wait til that guy loses. His lame #### tattoos and all....

Brock has undoubtedly used steroids in the past.
Heck, he was even arrested for possessing a substance. (Which from what I recall was not steroids, but was HGH. Which is why he was never actually prosecuted)
I'm not as hard in this situation since the UFC did want him to fight Nog, but Randy was still holding out to fight Fedor. And by the time he agreed to come back Nog was already matched up with Mir. And the heavyweight division isn't terribly strong at this point.

All true points Demi. That's why it happened. But I still reserve the right to sip on my sour grapes.

Couture screwed himself the last year in the half, and had to go in unprepared against somebody with 10 years on him as a contractual obligation. And Couture in his day...
Wow.
Lesnar couldn't have stepped to that, no freaking way.

What do you mean Couture was unprepared? He had ample time to prepare for Brock as Brock did him. BTW Couture wanted to fight Lesnar. That was the fight that would make him the most money and he took it and imo rightfully so. At this stage in his life i think he should go for the major paydays. The guy doesnt have many fights left so i hope he financially sets himself.
As for Brock no matter what he does people are going to complain about the guy. He would have lost to Randy and people would have ragged on him and said he was a joke. Now that he beat Randy those same people are saying well yeah he should have.

I hope he unifies the belts so we can hear a bunch more excuses.

WAR LESNAR!

This article touches a little on the steroid accusations. Until proven otherwise i am going to believe the guy hasn't used them. Article was written in March of 2000.

While a Louisville detective told TSG that the material was some kind of growth hormone, Lesnar's defense attorney, Scott Cox, characterized the confiscated pills as a "vitamin type of thing."

Randy wanted to fight Fedor. For 3 million dollars. Everything was ready to go, but he couldn't get out of his UFC contract. He even went to court in two seperate states to try and get out of his UFC contract. He couldn't, so he returned to the UFC despite not fighting in 14 months, filming movies etc. He weighed less than in any previous heavyweight fight and looked physically drained.
My complaint isn't with Lesnar himself. It's with a 1-1 in the UFC fighter getting a title shot. Against a guy who was obviously not in the shape he should, or could be. Virtually handing him the belt.

You forgot the most important part of the article.
Lesnar was exonerated when tests showed that the seized pills were not, in fact, steroids.
Everything wasn't ready to go with Fedor. There was no venue, no date, and no promotion that they were fighting for. I know about the court dates. Randy wanted out, but you dont always get what you want, especially when you have an existing contract. When Couture knew he wasnt getting out he went back to UFC, made up with them, and agreed to the fight that would get him the most money. That fight being the Brock Lesnar fight.
I will agree with you Couture looked drained. However Couture himself said he had no excuses and the layoff didn't hurt. He said training is so intense that it is near the real thing anyways. Couture stay in tremendous shape and trains year round. Its not like he ballooned to 300 pounds and didn't work out for those 14 months. The reason he weighed in at 220 pounds is he wanted to use his quickness and speed to tire Lesnar out. He didnt virtually hand Brock anything. He lost. Brock Won. Brock deserved everything he received that night including the UFC Heavyweight Championship of the World!
