Man accused of killing Peterson’s son was previously charged with abusing a 3-year-old - The Argus Leader reports that Joseph Robert Patterson had previously been given a suspended sentence on two domestic abuse cases, one involving an assault on a woman he was previously involved with, and another involving an assault on that woman’s child. Patterson was given a one-year jail term for each of those two charges, but the jail time was suspended on the condition he attend domestic violence counseling. Now Patterson is charged with aggravated assault on an infant in the beating of Peterson’s son. Additional charges are possible now that Peterson’s son has died.

Well, deepest condolences to the Petersons and the mother, of course.

But the thing that gets me is people treating this heinous murder like it is a murder mystery.
Half of all children in the country are born outside of marriage and yet so many people are like...
"WELL HOW IS IT HIS KID IF THEY WEREN'T MARRIED?!?! THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE THE SAME LAST NAMES."
Put your thinking caps on, people. This ain't no Hercule Poirot whodunit.

It certainly is no mystery. The suspect is in custody and I am not seeing a lot of people commenting on how is this his kid if they were not married :?:

(For some reason this makes me think of Allen Iverson. Not a game; we talkin' about practice, man!). Didn't the boy pass after he went back to Minnesota? Not that it really matters, but I'm curious on your thoughts because you've been pretty blunt about your opinions. And for the record, I totally get where you're coming from. Some of the details are sketchy or just plain missing, so it's hard to really say how things should have played out. I just know this event is just another sad reminder of the world we live in.
Just to be clear, I never once questioned Adrian's integrity in this thread. My comment was directed toward the poster who, when it was believed that the boy was in the hospital in critical condition with a chance at recovery, was hoping that the tragedy would spur Adrian on to a good game.

My best guess as to what transpired based on very limited information available is that Adrian just recently found out about this child and had possibly never met him. He got the call about the tragedy and went immediately to be by the boy's side. By the time Adrian arrived the child was on life support with no brain activity, essentially a hopeless situation. Adrian likely said his goodbyes and, seeing that there was nothing more he could do, headed back home.

Based on the my interpretation of what transpired I feel like Adrian's handling of the situation is totally understandable and probably about how I would have handled it if I was in his situation. An unfortunate and totally preventable tragedy. Very sad.
