His senior year shows what a good player he can be; he made a tonne of plays for Notre Dame on their way to the national championship. Regardless of the Catfish scandal, he should be judged on the tape and his Combine performance.

Manti Te'o - LB - Player

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on SportsCenter that teams around the NFL believe Notre Dame ILB Manti Te'o will still be a first-round pick despite running a 4.82 forty time at the Combine.

Whereas talking heads projected Te'o in the top five during the season, the new consensus is he's a late first-rounder. Schefter cited Te'o's on-field instincts, impressive interviews, and stronger shuttle times as reasons his stock remains among the draft's top-32 players. Denver (No. 28), Atlanta (30), and Baltimore (32) are all potential landing spots toward the end of day one.

Including his horrid performance against Alabama, the closest he saw all year to NFL level competition?

Of course, but that was still just one game. We all know rookies often need a little time to adjust to the increased speed and level of competition they face in the NFL. A similar dynamic could have been at work in that game. Perhaps film study and previous opponents just hadn't prepared Te'o to deal with the likes of Chance Warmack. Alabama took the game right to Te'o and took advantage of his aggressiveness. It was a good game plan by a terrific team.

Kevin Minter (LSU) and Steven Jenkins (A&M) looked a hell of a lot better than T'eo

Not to take up for Teo, but LSU and A&M both have better defensive lines than Notre Dame as well. It looks like LSU is going to have both of their DEs drafted in the top 32 and at one point Demontre Moore was considered to be a top 5 pick as well.

The circus has come to Minnesota enough over the years.
Te'o won't bring a circus. He has a good work ethic and keeps his nose clean. The whole fake girlfriend fiasco will blow over once there's real stories to report. The circus comes to town if we draft Ogletree.

The media attention about it has already died out for the most part. It's not the kind of story that continuously brings a "circus".

I think Ogletree will be gone before #23. His recent arrest and history of trouble in college does not seem to be depressing any of the hype around his skill set. I think either the Bears will take him at #20, and if he makes it past them look for the Rams to snag him at #22.

As far as Teo, I continue to believe he's Jasper Brinkley. They just move very similarly and play very similarly from what I've watched. Both are far better attacking the LOS in a relatively small area. Both struggle to get into drops, show similar instincts, and are largely neutralized if the tackles in front of them don't do their jobs. Why Teo is so hyped is beyond me. He's really a very average pro prospect, and the Combine confirmed that.

i think t'eo's performance in the national championship and the combine will have a MUCH bigger effect on where he is drafted than the catfish incident which no one is talking about anymore.

I think he brings more to the table then Brinkley, but when I've seen him I think the same thing. He's the same style player and has no business in this defense...that said EJ, then Brinkley, then Cole. He might be exactly what Frazier likes in his defense.

Manti Te'o - LB - Fighting Irish

Pro Football Weekly's Eric Edholm expects the Vikings "to be serious players" for Notre Dame ILB Manti Te'o.

"Need at LB," Edholm tweeted. "Filled one WR spot. (Two Notre Dame) teammates on roster," along with two first-round picks. It does make sense, but we wonder if teams consider Te'o more than a two down player in the NFL and if not, what is the value of a run defending linebacker with adequate ability in coverage.

He's just the kind of stiff liability in coverage they seem to like. :steamed:
