I think SI and Cliff are suffering from Forum Fatigue!
When it comes to Cousins I still can't put all of last season on him. I really feel like three of the losses where more about JDF's inadequecy than that of Cousins. In the Rams game Cousins's was probably the best player of the field for the Vikings and then Reiff let's him down at the end and Kirk takes the blame for the fumble. Obviously opinions vary.
The season is young. Elflein's mistakes are correctable. He wasn't physically beaten, he just blew his assignment. Besides, next Sunday we could to remind all the idiot power ranking dweebs that GB is a has been.
I'm looking more at Cousins over his career thus far. He's obviously not responsible for the record of an entire team or the teams he's on. He's not solely responsible for last season's record either. I guess by the end of the season we'll see if the streak bears out.
How many more seasons/games would Cousins-led teams have to continue to lose against "winning teams" before the more optimistic among us started to think it had more to do with him? He's started 4 entire seasons and started as backup in 14 games before that. After watching him last year every game it's just difficult for me to "believe".
On the other hand, if he bucks that trend it'll certainly make me feel better about him. As always, a Vikings player can easily change my mind for the more positive!
Cousins last year 767 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception while completing 75.3 percent of his passes against a losing team the Green Bay Packers. That should be an easy 2 wins but it wasn't. Especially when the D is top 5. That's a bigger problem when you can't beat a loser. The 13-3 Keenum star just let the Skins loose at home. He still has 15 games to get that 13 again and the Skins have a dam good team. Cowboys are next that should even it up for Case. What people are missing it all comes down to who you play and the team around you. Big Ben just got his head handed to him against a winner. Didn't even show up. At least show up. I'd like to see his lifetime record against winning teams. I'm sure it's better than Cousins but Big Ben played on some dam good teams. Or was it just him. If so were was he last week against a winner.

I was very happy with the game. It could not realistically have gone much better. Huge plays by defense and special teams can't be relied upon every week, but it was great to see. Also, I was happy to see better kick coverage than we saw all preseason and good punting from Colquitt.
I believe the path to success with Kirk Cousins depends on putting him in predictable situation where he can manage the game, and committing to the running game is a great start. 10 passes was extremely low and dictated by the way the game unfolded, but I hope the average over a 16 game season doesn't get above the 20-25 range.
Not only did the Vikings commit to the run, but they ran it well!
I don't know how good this team can be...it remains to be seen. But the approach they are taking is the right one, and I am extremely excited about that!

Colquitt played very well. Hard to believe he was available.

This was nearly a great game. I was happy to see the Vikings run the ball effectively again, against a solid defense. I was happy to see the defense adjust and play well for 3 quarters. This was a winnable game without a series of stupid penalties and even dumber turnovers, and that's true despite a multitude of bad calls going against us. I didn't expect to win all 16 games, and the loss doesn't bother me that much, because a lot of things that will make the Vikings a tough out week after week were evident and on display. This team will win its share of games this year...probably 9, maybe 10. But against tough competition, in tough situations, under pressure, we know that Cousins will wilt. Its what he does. This team is a QB away from title contention, but they have committed this window to a guy who is unable to step up and lead them through the most challenging moments.

Sadly, I couldn't agree more.
I know a lot of people are flaming on our defense, but this was the Packers' home opener. They came out hot, just like we did last week against a good Atlanta team. Zimmer adjusted, and Rodgers & Co. did bupkus after the first 17 minutes of the game. Here's the Packers' drive chart following their third score:
Fumble

Turnover on downs

We had a bunch of chances to come back and win this game, and we blew it. I won't say we were the better team. We lost. But we outplayed them for the last 43 minutes. It's just that Green Bay so badly outplayed us for the first 17 that we got in a deep hole.
Again, I'm missing Case Keenum more by the day.

Well the Skins got beat also. So Case blew again. He's 0-2. How can you miss that? We don't have a championship D. If we face the Rams again it won't be pretty. A 21-0 nothing hole on the road is tough to come out of. Losing is hard to take especially against the Pack. But give them credit they layed the wood to our D early. How do you let a guy catch a dump off and split the middle for a score? What happened to our players. The Bears just beat a team by playing D and being able to kick a long FG. 53 yards is a heck of a kick. That's with nothing at QB. Baily doesn't have a chance to make that. It goes across the board.

Those results are a little deceptive IMHO. On one of those Packer drives that resulted in a fumble, the Packers were in scoring position. Granted, the Vikings caused that fumble, but the Packers had moved it down the field prior to that. On the turnover on downs, again, the Packers had driven to scoring range and LaFluer chose to go for it on 4th and short instead of take the points. I thought that was one of the dumber decisions I've seen and the Vikings almost proved why, but the point is the Packers had moved it on that drive too.
None of that is to take away from the dominant 3 quarters of football the defense played. They played well for that stretch of the game, especially by comparison to how they started, but it wasn't quite as dominant as the final result would lead one to believe.
