Well, Cassel is now expected to be released so he should be available if you want (but seriously, don't want). If that's the case, kudos again to Rick for essentially stealing a fifth-round pick (and seventh-rounder) while arguably also upgrading the position.

Does he wind up back in New England to back up Jimmy G during Brady's suspension?dead_poet wrote:Well, Cassel is now expected to be released so he should be available if you want (but seriously, don't want). Only to end up #3 on the depth chart or released? I don't know. There are probably teams out there with worse backups.fiestavike wrote: Does he wind up back in New England to back up Jimmy G during Brady's suspension?

I'd still take Cassel over Hill but let's hope it doesn't matter.
By the way, here's some info that may help some of you.
I had to schedule some work this month on an outer island which will take the entire afternoon and evening. On my google calendar, Monday Sept 14th was open so I scheduled the work for that day. Only after I committed with the customer I realized what day that is. Vikings vs 49ers! Doh! Anyway, here's a link that will import the Vikings 2015 schedule to your google calendar (or any other sports team).

Cassell over Hill all day, every day. But that point is mute.
Heiny isnt going to last on the PS. I posted this on another thread, but someone looking for a cheap #2 QB is going to snatch him up.

Is there any difference between a Cassel "apologist" and a Hill "apologist"? They're both veteran QBs with experience and consistency but limited upside.frosted wrote: Great, the Cassel apologists are back out in force![]()

Re: 2015 Season General Comments (pressers, practice notes,
? We didn't draft Hill so he's gotta go? What does that have to do with the ridiculous idea of developing a guy? And where is this doom and gloom coming from? Do you want to count every QB drafted in the history of the league that was a third string, and how they ended up? Does that look like "doom and gloom" to you? We can sign a find an equivalent QB in free agency, off the street, on another teams practice squad. Every year throughout the draft. And shoot, we didn't draft Shaun Hill, either. He's gotta go. Who is going to take his spot?
I'm just really perplexed by this, so unless you have a lot of answers, can we pump the breaks on the doom and gloom for a second?
And what did it get them? Obviously the Vikes situation was different, that #3 should have been starting. But "develop".I think I actually understand your point but I'd rather see them go with 3 QBs. In the injury-plagued NFL, it's not unusual for teams to need to play the third QB on their roster. The Rams were down to theirs before the end of the week 1 opener against the Vikes last year. The Vikes were forced to start their 3rd QB in week 5.
If our #3 is starting, it doesn't matter who it is, we aren't accomplishing anything. Same goes for every team that ends up starting their #3 for any period of time.
Worst case Teddy and Hill go down in the same game, chances the #3 QB makes a difference in that game? Compared to having some better play on special teams throughout EVERY game. Or another rotational guy at any number of positions who will see the field every game?
We have a franchise QB, and a veteran backup. That should be more than enough. We heard this same "he won't make the practice squad" stuff how many times in the last decade about how many of the diamonds in the rough we've had for a potential #3? It wasn't a reality then, and it sure isn't a reality now when we have a bonafide #1 franchise QB out there. Instead of the trash leading up to this.

Cassel can't beat out Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel. Let me repeat that.....Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel!!! But he's so much better than Hill?? OkPurpleKoolaid wrote:Cassell over Hill all day, every day. But that point is mute.

And how is Heinecke not going to last on the practice squad?? He's been great all preseason.
I just don't get it, guys complain about how important the #3 QB spot is before the draft and how we have to develop somebody and now people are saying go with 2 QBs and Heinecke (who is a good developmental guy) isn't going to make the PS? This entire post just doesnt seem very logical to me at all

Re: 2015 Season General Comments (pressers, practice notes,
I continue to shake my head that guys wish we had Cassel instead of Hill when Cassel can't beat out 2 legitimate bums that are well below average starters
If you can't be a number 2 over EJ MANUEL, you think he would be a good #2 on this team?? Give me a break. He was owed too much, wasn't good, and needed to be let go and CLEARLY, Spielman made the right move.

You're the one who said you just draft and start QBs, not me. I'm was questioning if there just might be alternate possibilities.Demi wrote:Just go with two QBs. Don't really care what happened in Buffalo. There are more factors than just who is the better QB, look what happen here in Minnesota in 2013.Pondering Her Percy wrote: Cassel can't beat out Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel. Contracts aside, if Bridgewater goes down for the season in week 1, I'd take Cassel over Hill any day of the week. Not saying I don't like Hill, he's a good backup. I just think Cassel can be very effective given the right cast.
You may continue shaking your head.
