Yeah it would be hard. But man i think watkins is gonna be a STUD in the nfl.

I like your new avatar. Freaky potential.Eli wrote: That would be a dilemma. Wide receiver isn't a position of great need for the Vikings. At least, not in 2014. But Jennings won't be a premier WR for much longer, and he's had a lot of problems staying healthy. Patterson is still something of an unknown and still unpolished. If Simpson walks, then they don't have a solid #2. They could do a lot worse than draft Watkins for the (very near) future.

No, if Watkins is there, and whatever D player we need we can get later, we trade down.
Re: 'Rick Spielman' the Vikings For a Day: NFL Draft Simulat
That could be a great opportunity, for the right price. A LOT of teams would love to get their hands on Watkins.PurpleKoolaid wrote:No, if Watkins is there, and whatever D player we need we can get later, we trade down.

Re: 'Rick Spielman' the Vikings For a Day: NFL Draft Simulat
I think with having both Daquan Jones and Danielle Mccullers would give us the option to move to a 3-4 or just have a very strong rotation at DT and would also free us up to cut Letroy Guion and save some money.

First attempt, only 4 rounds since I think the simulator still needs some refinement.
8 WR SAMMY WATKINS CLEMSON - Bortles, Bridgewater and Carr all taken. Mack also gets taken at #7 (doh). BPA. For what it's worth, simulator has Jake Matthews going #2, I think Robinson has the top OT spot locked up. JFB went #20.
40 CB JASON VERRETT TCU - Not the big corner some are looking for but plays physical and has great ball skills. Also, corner isn't a position where you need to be 6'2.
72 QB JIMMY GAROPPOLO EASTERN ILLINOIS
96 G CYRIL RICHARDSON BAYLOR
104 DT KELCY QUARLES SOUTH CAROLINA
I'll do a full 7 rounds after the combine.

If the Vikings don't draft a linebacker in their first five picks, I'm going to smash something.
Re: 'Rick Spielman' the Vikings For a Day: NFL Draft Simulat
Van Noy went a few picks before the Vikings 2nd round choice and as I mentioned Mack went one pick before #8. I just didn't see the value the way the simulator played out to grab a LB compared to who was on the board at the other picks.Eli wrote:If the Vikings don't draft a linebacker in their first five picks, I'm going to smash something.

Tuesday update:
R1 OLB ANTHONY BARR UCLA - Simulator seems to be getting better, Bortles #1, Watkins #4, Mack #7. Manziel goes #20. The pick basically came down to Barr or one of the corners. I think this is a deep corner class (not to mention free agency is deep too) and we all know Zimmer likes a rusher at the SAM position. You could certainly make an argument for Mosley here too, who went #22.
R2 G XAVIER SU’A-FILO UCLA - Wanted Yankey but just missed out on him. Su'a-Filo is a brute but also has the athleticism to play in a zone blocking scheme. Plus two guys from the same school fits Spielman's MO
. Jason Verrett was another consideration as was Kelvin Benjamin. Had Benjamin run a faster 40, he would have been the pick.
R3 QB JIMMY GAROPPOLO EASTERN ILLINOIS - Mettenberger goes 2 picks before the Vikings.
R3 CB STANLEY JEAN- BAPTISTE NEBRASKA - Was hoping for Martavis Bryant here but he was taken. J-B is a pretty good consolation prize though.
R4 WR JARVIS LANDRY LSU - has all the measurables to be a very productive receiver in the NFL. His inconsistencies are probably what drops him into the 4th but he's a steal in that round.
R5 QB AARON MURRAY GEORGIA - no more eggs in one basket, Murray along with a veteran gives the Vikings options to go along with JG.
R6 DT RYAN CARRETHERS ARKANSAS STATE - I'm throwing darts at this point.
R7 QB CONNOR SHAW SOUTH CAROLINA - Did I mention the thing about eggs and one basket? Worth a flier IMO.

You're seriously neglecting the DL there, Rick Jr.
Re: 'Rick Spielman' the Vikings For a Day: NFL Draft Simulat
And safety but I just didn't see any value at the respective picks vs. other positions.Eli wrote:You're seriously neglecting the DL there, Rick Jr.

Nobody at DT or DE worthwhile at no. 40? Do you think guard is a larger priority, or is Su’a-Filo a can't-pass-up prospect?S197 wrote: And safety but I just didn't see any value at the respective picks vs. other positions.

Re: 'Rick Spielman' the Vikings For a Day: NFL Draft Simulat
I think that if Watkins were there at 8 I would trade him for some extra picks. Maybe snag a good LB or DT a few picks later then swing a trade to get Evans from A&M. I actually like him better than Watkins and he has the size to become a Vernon Davis type TE/wide receiver.Bigwehrm wrote:Yeah it would be hard. But man i think watkins is gonna be a STUD in the nfl.
Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!

None that I saw, the value was at guard and corner IMO.Eli wrote: Nobody at DT or DE worthwhile at no. 40? Do you think guard is a larger priority, or is Su’a-Filo a can't-pass-up prospect?
We need to solidify the line and Johnson needs to go. Assuming the Vikings lockup Griffen, DE is solid (although depth is thin but there's also free agency). They also just spent a 1st on Floyd. You can try the simulator for yourself and see if you come up with better results but my experience is that you're going to have holes one way or the other.
