Re: Harvin traded
I'm having trouble seeing why a top tier wideout would want to come and play for this team as it is. Guys like Wallace, Cruz and Nicks would have other options with more solid QBs and pass heavy systems.
The guy we had didn't want to be here. IMO due to some of those factors.
We should try...but I'm not hoping too much for any of these FA guys.
Build a team...stabilize the QB position and create a situation where we actually have an enticing situation for a proven #1.
In the meantime do your best to draft one.

Oh boy.

Sources: Percy Harvin's lack of confidence in Christian Ponder was final straw for Vikings
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl---sour ... 48037.htmlAccording to two sources, the straw that broke the Vikings' back with Harvin is when he bemoaned the fact that quarterback Christian Ponder, a 2011 first-round pick, was not good enough. That came even though Ponder consistently fed Harvin the ball.
Last season, Harvin had team highs of 62 catches for 677 yards, and added three touchdowns before suffering a season-ending injury in the Vikings' ninth game.

Re: Harvin traded
This may not be a popular opinion but personally I'm glad Harvin is gone. He would have been nothing more than a distraction had we tried to negotiate with him and there is nothing to suggest we would have been succesfull. If he then sits out the year as was suggested he would do, his value declines and what would we have gotten for him then. He wanted to leave pure and simple and by trading him now we get a 1st, 7th and possibly an additional pick and we dont have to go thru that drama plus the front office is now better prepared for the draft with this issue resolved. Harvin was and will continue to be a very talented player and those talents will be missed but......when your trying to build a TEAM you dont need a prima donna to placate.

Now that you have an extra first rounder how would you feel up there about Victor Cruz? He is an RFA and you can get him for a first round pick.

So.. Yay or nay for Nicks? I'm confused.mrc44 wrote:
Thats what I mean! I would rather take an amazing young talent that Has NO injury history over someone who does.

While we're on the topic...
Victor Cruz - WR - Giants
"Several sources" tell CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora that the Patriots had considered a run at restricted free agent Victor Cruz before Cruz switched agents to Tom Condon on Monday.
Slapped with the first-round tender, acquiring Cruz would require teams to fork over a large long-term contract in addition to a first-round pick. The Pats apparently considered it nonetheless, but have a well-documented history of staying away from Condon's clients. Cruz presumably would have replaced Wes Welker in the slot. La Canfora believes there is still a possibility someone will make a run at Cruz, despite the costly restricted tender.

Yeah, all these reports citing "inside sources" were apparently completely wrong about the Harvin situation all along. Pelissero and Zulgad just disliked Percy for some reason and had an agenda. They made everything up that they've written for the past 8 months... They're just a bunch of hacks.Purplemania wrote:According to two sources, the power ball numbers for this week will be 24, 51, 46, 13, 20, and 17.

How delightful. Good luck Christian.
Tom Pelissero on TwitterThe receivers the #Vikings have under contract for 2013 have 29 NFL catches combined.

While we're on Cruz, something to keep in mind...
In other words, don't get your hopes up.
Chris Wessling on TwitterOn the Victor Cruz front, the last RFA to be signed away from a 1st-round tender was Laveranues Coles 10 years ago

With 2 first round picks, why not
Re: Harvin traded
Well, this sucks. Looks like we have a lot of work to do boys...
At least we get a first rounder. Too bad he had to leave though. He was an absolutely amazing player.

LOL! That will go over well with Ponder's biggest fans.dead_poet wrote:Oh boy.

That's definitely cause for concern but It's how the receivers they have signed when next season begins perform that will really matter. Those of us who were looking for big change on the Vikings WR depth chart might just get it. I say "might" because it's still possible that players like Simpson, Jenkins and Burton could be WRs for the Vikes again next year. It will be very interesting to see how Spielman goes about addressing this position group.dead_poet wrote:How delightful. Good luck Christian.

Those were just the reports that got out. Or were handled in front of the team. To assume that not only were those bogus *snickers* but there weren't more issues behind the scenes that *weren't* reported would be ridiculous.
The writing was on the wall months ago. There was zero chance he stayed on the team, and good riddance. About time this team gets serious about head case malcontent team killing morale smashing CANCERS.
Now isn't the time to start drafting more of them either!!!
