That's okay. This is the first time I've heard it! It makes sense. Spielman said other factors in the trade were looking at roster next year and he says there is a lot of depth still in the draft this year.
Spielman says he got three players for the price of one in deal with Miami.
"In next year's draft, having an extra 3 and an extra 4, that gives you a lot of flexibility to move around in the 2nd or up in the 1st"
So: Depth of current roster, expiring contracts next year, and depth of next year's class were reasons for trade, per Spielman

Spielman says the conditional 2017 fourth-rounder will be Miami's lowest pick.
