That's what I don't get. I would have thought that it wasn't worth making the switch for that kind of money. It's not like we'll now be able to sign Boling with the extra $1 (million). I was thinking that we'd want to get a backup in the $2.5M per year range.
Well, I guess a million dollars and exchanging a 6th for a 5th is nothing to sneeze at.

Huh? Mike Glennon? Or Josh McCown?
Maybe you want this one? He's younger, so Jim gets his developmental player.

Is that Johnny Manziel?

I'll bet that Cassel wanting to start had some influence too.

Yes, that's the ticket

I think Buffalo, with their defense, has a pretty good looking team heading into the draft. Cassel is good enough a game manager to go with what should be a formidable run game.

Something to consider ... at 9.85%, Minnesota has the second highest state income tax rate. Only California's nose bleed 13.3% rate is higher. I don't know if that hurts the Vikings but it sure as heck doesn't help.

Alright, today is the craziest day in NFL history (according to my 27 years of life)...And the Vikes haven't really done anything.
What kind of Cap Space do the Vikings have?
Are any of the available FA's actual options for the Vikes?
::CB::
Browner
Cromartie
Revis
Tramon Williams
::WR::
Crabtree
Denarius Moore
Cecil Short
Kenny Brit
And to add to the Peterson trade discussion..After the Jimmy Graham trade, we need to be looking to receive at least a starter AND a 1st round pick.

I would love Browner.
The only WR I had an interest in was Johnson.
I think AD is staying.
There are rumors flying we could be trading picks for Hank Hill's son.

The caliber of developmental QB I'm talking about would quickly get poached off a practice squad.
As for developing a guy, my philosophy has changed lately. I think they had the right mindframe with Ponder just the wrong guy. I would like to see the next guy in line learn from Bridgewater...which means they have to develop him first.
We're obviously of somewhat different minds on this.

I see teaching as the role of the coaches. I'd want my QBs learning primarily from them. If there's something to be learned from each other, great, but to me the whole point of having a quality developmental QB behind Bridgewater is to have someone who can step in and take over the job if things don't work out, short term or long term. That's one of the ways in which I think they went wrong with both Jackson and Ponder and I want to see them learn from it and stop putting all their eggs in one basket.

Huge pickup by Buffalo. Felton is a great asset for any team that wants to run the ball.

That's the only thing that makes sense to me. Cassel wanted a chance to start somewhere. Matt had everything you wanted in a backup. Starting experience, able to perform at a moments notice, experience with the system, chemistry with your #1 WR, familiarity with the rest if the players.
Shaun Hill has played in 13 games since 2010, and that includes 9 games in 2014. How do we know what we're really getting in Hill? Rick paid $3M for Josh Freeman so i dont think Cassel's price tags had much to do with the trade.
