With the seriously deflated RB market, and the Vikings need for another back, is it worth a few million dollar investment to bring him in? AD probably doesnt want to share the backfield, but it would certainly be a big weapon for that offense on passing situations or even a 2-back set.
He's not going to want to play back-up behind Adrian Peterson. He will most likely want to go somewhere where we can start. And no he is not worth getting.

The truth is he won't start anywhere whether he'd like to or not. His top 3 suitors that are interested are:
Atlanta: he would split time with stephen jackson/jacquizz rodgers
Dallas: he probably won't want to back up Murray, yet he would have to
Jets: maybe his best chance to start, yet Ivory and Powell both flashed ability
To be honest im not a huge fan of his, however fresh legs on 3rd down with breakaway speed is awfully tempting, and if AD goes down we have some insurance

Doubt the Vikes would have any interest but would be an intriguing pairing

Free agent Josh Freeman visited the Bears on Monday.
It's Freeman's first-known visit. Although the Bears have Jay Cutler locked up as their franchise quarterback, it would be an ideal landing spot for Freeman. He'd get to work with quarterback-whisperer Marc Trestman, and have a good shot at making starts behind an injury-prone Cutler. It's surprising that it's taken Freeman this long to make a visit, but it speaks to how disastrous his 2013 was in every phase.

Vikings are bringing in Kurt Coleman for a visit.
Nothing wrong with a little competition

Kurt Coleman is worse than Mistral Raymond. Just let that sink in for a second.

I guess if he's signed there's no guarantee he'd make the team but they'd be essentially re-signing a Tyrell Johnson
its a long shot he makes the team, especially if we take ANY safeties in the draft. If they get him, he wouldn't be paid anything more than the minimum with incentives if he makes the team. With Smith, Sanford, and Sendejo likely locks to make the team (hurts me to say that), that leaves one maybe 2 spots at safety, and I'm not a Mistral Raymond fan, so I don't have a problem with them bringing in a body to compete. Even if he's just a tool to use to push our current players a bit, it'll be worth it. Lets just hope we take a safety in the top 4 rounds, or find out Sendejo has been working on his coverage skills this offseason.

People may not agree with me, which is fine, but I actually would like us to sign Kurt Coleman. I was a fan of his in college.
Ya he sucked on defense in Philadelphia when he was forced into a starting role in his 2nd season, there's no denying that. But the chances of him coming in here and winning the starting job are slim anyways, I don't think that's what he'd be signed for. He's a competitor, a gritty player who works extremely hard, has a great attitude and is going to keep getting better. And he's a special teams ace. As much as I know people won't like to hear that, STs is a part of game, and we're at the stage of free agency where we're not looking for starters anymore, more for backups. And I think it's extremely important that our backup safeties have special teams ability.
If it came down to him or Mistral Raymond for a roster spot, I'd take Coleman every time

They will need some Giants to catch his over-throws

It wasn't long ago that choosing between starting Jamarca Sanford or Mistral Raymond was a coin toss and many preferred Raymond. Bottom line, though, is that the Vikings have exactly one quality safety on their roster and need to make some moves at the position, even if it means taking fliers on guys like Coleman.

It is a tad disturbing that many fans are content with our safety position. I am not. We have one great player who can start and, essentially, a bunch of back-up caliber players that will start at the other safety position.

The problems with signings like this is, our DBs have sucked since Fraizer came in, which is kinda ironic since he was a DB himself. But we have had a ton of crap DBs and now we just added another. I don't know if they are picking a safety in the first couple rounds, but I was hoping they would pick a CB first.

I wouldn't say I'm "content" with the position. I'm not satisfied with Sanford or Sendejo penciled in, but I'm also realistic and realize I'm probably not going to be satisfied with every starting position on the team this year, or probably ever.
If the draft plays out where we have a safety at the top of our draft board in any round, you take him. But there's no need to force the position this year, because while not the best player in the world, Sanford is serviceable. And Sendejo has some upside as well. Not to mention Zimmer's scheme doesn't put a huge emphasis on great safety play, he's been able to be a consistently strong defense with average safeties.
