Cover 2 just doesn't work now. Not with tight ends and the quarterback play of the modern era. It is just done.
The only two teams that run it are the Bears and the Vikings and both of 'em have terrible pass D.

They're clearly getting outplayed but it's more than that. The announcers have said it multiple times, you can't rush four and sit in a shell and expect magic.
