Yes I agree, Musgrave has done a good job with Cassel. I think he knew Ponder wasn't good so he limited his playbook. I'd keep Musgrave. Just like when people thought Daren Bevell was sorry here in Minny; look what happen when he got to coach a REAL QB in Russell Wilson. Now they're the top team in the conference. Give Musgrave a REAL QB and see how he does.
There were a couple games where he did a decent job with Ponder too, ie: the R-Words game. We've had a lot more dynamic offense since we started opening things up and spreading our offense out.
It's hard to know where all the decisions are coming from, like the decision to never play Patterson early in the season. Watching him now there's no way they can use the excuse that he didn't know the playbook or wasn't a refined route runner. They're basically just tossing him the ball and saying "run that way... unless of course you feel like going the other way, then do that". It shouldn't have been that difficult to get a guy with that talent the ball in space a couple times a game and let him run around.

Here is what someone at ESPN thinks, for what this is worth. The Penn State guy could be good.
- The Vikings already have been linked to Penn State’s Bill O’Brien and Vanderbilt’s James Franklin, though O’Brien is reportedly deep in negotiations with the Houston Texans. Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, a former Vikings linebacker, and offensive coordinator Adam Gase are on the Vikings' radar, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
One thing that seems likely about the search is that it will be exhaustive. Spielman hasn’t had a chance to do a full search before as GM, and the general manager's style of operation tends to be detailed and deliberate. The Vikings' search could look something like the Chicago Bears' process last year, where general manager Phil Emery brought in handfuls of candidates simply to build his knowledge base and list of contacts. Spielman might find it wise to do the same thing, which could mean the Vikings don't have a coach until sometime later in January.

Schiano was just fired. Maybe the Vikes will hire him.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops is "open" to making the leap to the NFL.
Ensconced at Oklahoma since 1999, Stoops has resisted countless overtures to bolt Norman, Ok., but has seemingly plateaued at OU. He might finally be ready to make a change. It's also possible Stoops has been emboldened to make a move by the NFL success of former college coaches Chip Kelly, Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll. Stoops has compiled a 159-39 record in 15 seasons at Oklahoma, and favors a pass-happy offense.

I wouldn't be opposed to stoops, my gf is from oklahoma and they all LOVE him there, he's like god lol. He'd be re-united with AD and Loadholt, and we could trade for bradford LOLOLOL

Interesting. I heard on NFLN that Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin has an "out" in his contract that would allow him to go to the NFL so he's another college coach that could be available.

Has Sumlin done anything other than be lucky enough to have Manziel on his team? I'm asking this non-sarcastically as someone who doesn't follow college football too closely.

Lot of people in Seattle are pissed at Bevell LOL! They just lost a game were Palmer went 13/25, 178 yards passing, 4 ints, 1 TD to the cardinals and Bevell's kick #### offense part 2 scored 10 points despite the defense giving them short fields to work with.
Bevell sucks, but yeah that team is talented, we all saw even an idiot like Childress could take a talented team pretty far. I have no problems that Bevell isn't a Viking, he + Tjack + rice + harvin can all be happy collected their checks off of them instead of us now, good riddance!

I hope no one with the Vikes gets the big idea to hire Shanahan, who has just been fired. I don't think he deals with player problems very well, plus I think he would want a substantial say in personnel moves.
No worries about that, Shanahan senior will never head coach again in this league.[/quote]
I would like to see your cystal ball or whatever makes you feel that Shanahan will NEVER be a head coach again

Even Lombardi left the Packers and coached the Redskins in 1969 (they both have to Super Bowl Trophies and anything is possible).

I'm hoping we get the CIN DC. I know folks do not like this idea, but I think Musgrave hasn't been that terrible as the OC. They are in the top 10 in offense in a QB league with total garbage at the QB for most games this season.
It would be exciting to see what this team could do if it had even a halfway competent pass defense.

I don't think he needs a crystal ball to tell him that.
1. Old
2. Only had success when he had Elway, one of the greatest QBs of all time
3. The whole RG3 fiasco ever since his injury last year
4. Passive-aggressive BS that his buddy Adam Schefter helps him with
5. Creepy smile
No thanks

I still think Musgrave and Williams are both must-go's. We need an offensive guy that is creative and is able to open up this offense more. It's wayyyy to predictable right now and very hard to watch. Defensively, we need an aggressive guy in here that doesn't sit back and let teams march down the field on us. More so, a Mike Zimmer type defense.
Speaking of Cincy, Jay Gruden has also been linked to the Vikings head coaching vacancy.

I have made my position clear that no way do I want him coaching the Vikes I am saying that there is always a chance that he will be a HC again some where.
