Dog days?
Smith, 33, told The Associated Press on Thursday he wants ''to play 15 or 16 years'' in the NFL, which would take him through the 2015 or 2016 season. Smith said he's drawn inspiration from former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber, who retired earlier this month after 16 seasons in the league.

That was Cassel throwing the ball right? Not a smart throw, in a live practice or game that safety would have blown up Patterson.

Thanks for the warning but....it was just being sarcastic (thought that you might have figured that out) oh well.

Yes, it looked like Cassel. Actually, I thought Patterson showed nice hands on the catch.

As for being blown up, Patterson is probably used to it. He and Hunter used to take a thumping from SEC defenses after making catches. Heck, half the time they were the only offense Tennessee had, which meant the entire D secondaries were focused on them.

He showed good hands but I doubt he comes down with the football if that was live. Any receiver will tell you the worst ball is one thrown over the middle high, leaving your ribs exposed. I don't want to get into over analyzing one pass, I'm just saying in a game that could have been ugly.

Is there any news out there about progress in the signing of the rookie 3?

Most 1st rounders sign closer to training camp. Since the Vikings picks are lower, they should be some of the first picks to sign of the 32 but there's nothing to really worry about as the new contracts leave very little to negotiate.

I had no worries and know the 1st rounnders start falling the closer we get to training camp. Just wondering as all I have is ESPN 1 & 2 and the net down here, of course.

Only #Vikings not here for start of practice are Jared Allen, John Sullivan, Michael Mauti, Nathan Williams. First three are rehabbing. It appears Chris Summers (hamstring) is back in action after sitting out last week. Greg Jennings (ankle) out here too. #Vikings
Joe Webb among those fielding punts here. Getting extra instruction from Mike Priefer too. Seems like a real look. Others catching punts include Adam Thielen, Cordarrelle Patterson, Bradley Randle, Stephen Burton, Jarius Wright. #Vikings

Greg Childs is here with helmet again but doesn't appear to be participating in any drills yet. Coming off bilateral patellar tendon tears.

#Vikings working a lot of nickel defense today. No surprises. Henderson and Greenway are the LBs, Robinson in slot, Cook/Rhodes outside.
Second team nickel is Bobby Felder. Continue to like his chances for making a push. #Vikings

Team drills. Ponder's first pass deflected by Rhodes, intercepted by Robison. They're running two sets of team simultaneously. That's new.

Rookie Travis Bond working with ones in place of Phil Loadholt. Also seeing some time at left for Kalil. Swing tackle?

Nice! It seems like Ponder was getting the best of Rhodes yesterday. Glad to see Rhodes set up a turnover. I have a feeling we will see more turnovers from our D this season.
