What do you mean by franchise QB? Do you mean an elite QB is necessary, or just a very good QB? While a good QB is important, it is not THE absolute necessary to make it to the Super Bowl. Eli Manning is obviously an elite QB, but the Giants defense played a huge role in getting them to the Super Bowl. The Ravens made it two Super Bowls over the last decade using a very balanced team. Other one time NFC teams over the last decade made it there without franchise QBs.PurpleHalo wrote:

The Patriots are in the Super Bowl regularly as much for the coaching and personnel genius of BB as they are for the play of Tom Brady. The one team that I think always rode the back of their QB was Indianapolis with Peyton Manning.
But, I do agree that if you are looking for legendary franchise status, you need a quality coach, a top notch GM and front office, and an excellent QB. But those do not just grow on trees. Over the past decade, only two or three teams have reached that kind of long-term success (Indy and New England... maybe the Giants). I believe the Vikings have two pieces in place. Hopefully they find that third piece.
