Suggestions?
The OC/QB coach aren't the problem. Webb is a bum. And Ponder is below average. It doesn't matter who their coaches are...
I thought you referred to Check Down Charlie as a bum. Did you not call him Bummy Mcbumbum.

Well now that Webb is involved I have to adjust my scale.

Demi, I notice that you are extremely critical of Ponder and Webb. Which is absolutely fine, but we seem to have different views on QB progression and talent. I was just wondering if you or anyone for that matter, would be willing to sorta, list things they think are acceptable early career mistakes, and those that they think are not. Mostly because I don't know much about what to look for in QB beyond touch on throws and the physicals.

Re: webb is a joke
WHICH is exactly the point....all the coaches saw him practice all season long....he got the back up reps, HE got the reps for defensive drills....how the hell could they NOT see over a 2 year period that he throws like some kid with Cerebral Palsy??!?!headless_norseman wrote:
No one saw Webb during the season, only the coaches during practice.
Re: webb is a joke
Easy there. All Frasier said was that he expects Joe Webb to be a guy competing for that number two spot. It doesn't mean that he'll be seriously considered or that Frasier expects Webb to win the competition for the position. If given the chance, you could expect that I'd compete for the job. If you expect I'll get it, that's another story all together...PurpleKoolaid wrote: And just when I was gaining a little respect for Fraizer....

In context, Frazier's comments on Webb being the #2 are pretty much the opposite of what Pelissero has tweeted. I watched the presser, Frazier is non-commital, but sounds (at least to me) like he thinks they will address the position w/ other personnel. I don't doubt that they let Webb compete. But I highly doubt he'll be penciled in without some real competition.

Sage Rosenfels .... We departed ways with him a second time! He's a way better qb than WEBB.
Re: webb is a joke
Like someone else on this board said, you can't really compare Sage to Webb. Sage may be a better pocket passer, but Webb is a better athlete. Also, welcome to the board!Carter80dagreat! wrote:Sage Rosenfels .... We departed ways with him a second time! He's a way better qb than WEBB.

I don't think anyone here is a QBs coach. But it's been pretty clear he still has mechanical issues, ones you don't even see in college quarterbacks. Especially with his footwork. He still misses wide open receivers failing to go through his reads again and again (even the Packer win his biggest game of his career Wright was uncovered on a number of plays that Ponder missed). He still makes terrible decisions trying to throw balls away. And is wildly inaccurate on deeper passes.
If it was just one thing, or happening every now and then, it wouldn't be near as big of an issue. He had all the excuses in the world last year from no offseason to his rookie season. 26 games into his career and he's *still* doing them.
Re: webb is a joke
I agree, I think Frazier was just playing politics (for lack of a better term) with that statement. Personally I would have liked to have seen Webb left in Green Bay. His days of wearing a Viking uniform should have ended when the game was over.Just Me wrote:Easy there. All Frasier said was that he expects Joe Webb to be a guy competing for that number two spot. Re: webb is a joke
Ponder has had really slow progress and Webb wasn't playing to what he did in the philly game. The QB position needs more / different coaching than what it has now.Demi wrote: I don't think anyone here is a QBs coach. Re: webb is a joke
No, you don't. Plenty of great athletes have been poor professional football players. It may seem like some kind of cruel paradox, but it's the way the world works. And Joe Webb can hardly be called an athletic freak. He can run fast and he can jump high. That doesn't even mean he has good hand/eye coordination or great motor skills.Boon wrote:Ended? You don't just drop athletic freaks. You find roles for them.
Had Joe Webb been made a receiver, or a safety, or a linebacker back in high school or college, his football career might have been different. But he's 26 years old now and few NFL teams have the time to reshape a player into whatever might or might not be a better position for him.
Re: webb is a joke
He played for UAB, a small school. He failed in the NFL as a WR. He failed in the NFL as a QB. He was never NFL caliber talent. It's sad with his athleticism, but there is no upside to keeping such a project any longer. Cut him now.

Re: webb is a joke
I actually don't like the title of this topic, and to say he is no qb, he is no wr, he is no NFL caliber anything? How strange is that when I've read how athletic he is/was since last year. He had a bad game, and now he is a virus? Strange...

Re: webb is a joke
It's not so strange and he's not a virus or a joke (I don't like the thread title either). However, being athletic is only part of being a good football player. Webb's a great athlete but he's not a very skilled player and therein lies the problem. It's the skilled athletes that tend to stick around for more than a few years in the NFL. Maybe Webb could be a good gunner on special teams or something but at almost any other position, it's likely the team can find a better, more skilled option than Webb.indianation65 wrote:I actually don't like the title of this topic, and to say he is no qb, he is no wr, he is no NFL caliber anything?
