Twins pick up Pavano, 33, from Indians
I think he can only help really. I'm wondering if this means Liriano's time in the rotatiion is short? I'm surprised they demoted Dickey. I was thinking Keppel or something like that.

Im glad Dickey went down, IMO, he was the worst we have. If he needs to pitch more than one inning, its over, cant stand him in a Twins uniform. I dont know much about the guy we picked up, but he cant be any worse than we have.

Actually he should go to the bullpen, IMO. He is lights out for the first three innings, then he shuts down or something. For the rest of the season, he should come from the pen. He has way too much talent to stay there for the rest of his career, but for now it may be the best move. Then have Dunseing start.

Blackburn was our last somewhat solid starting pitcher...and he gave up 6 runs in 2 innings against KC tonight...wow...just wow.
Talk about implosion.

Wow. This team is collapsing faster than the team from 2002. I can't believe they are only 5.5 games out. What a joke their division is.

The Division is very weak, but the way we have been playing, being 5.5 games out could just as well be 50.5 games out, it wont matter.

Rauch, Mahay added to bullpen
They also have a claim on Rick Harden of the Cubs (That would be a great move), designated Dickey for assignment, and took Humber off of their 40 man roster. I like that Smith is being a little more aggressive now, I just wish it had happened sooner, but I'm not complaining. I like all of these moves. I think Billy is realizing that neither Chicago nor Detroit really want to win the division, so why not the Twins? IF they can get on a hot streak, stranger things have happened. Even though the Central is weak, anything can happen in October...

Good pick-ups...just wish it wasn't so late. Oh well, like you said, anything can happen. They're not impossibly out of the race either, so this could push them forward. Glad the front office FINALLY realized something needed to be done. Glad Dickey got pushed out for em.

If they really wanted to go out and get someone to help the team, they should've gotten Kazmir from the Rays?
And how did that deal between the Rays and Angels even happen? I thought the trade deadline was long gone?

The July 30th deadline is the deadline for trades without players going through waivers. After that, players must clear waivers for a trade to be made. Obvioulsy, there were factors in Kazmir's contract that didn't attract any other teams to claim him. Maybe Kazmir was too rich for the Twins.

He was owed an absurd amount of money not only for the rest of this season, but for the next two seasons. He really has had only two really good seasons, other than that he has been injured or very average. I like the moves we have made, and if we can get Penny or Harden, that would make us that much better.

I can't believe Joe Nathan blew another game. I've noticed his fastball is only like 88mph now instead of 92-94. I wonder if he is tired, or maybe hurt?
I honestly thought they had turned their season around, and were going to win the Central. I truly believed that. Now, I feel a tailspin coming on. They play in Cleveland, which is always tough, and then in Toronto, which they have had no success against for years.

They still have to play Detroit 7 times this year. Their job now is to stay close enough to make those games mean something. It can be done.
