Vikings: Mike Zimmer is 'tough ... and good, former bosses say.... "One rap on Leslie Frazier was he was too nice to thrive as an NFL head coach. It doesn't sound as if that ever would be an issue with Mike Zimmer.
He'd be tough," Barry Switzer said. "He'd be demanding."
Zimmer is a great guy, but nice is a word that I wouldn't describe him with when it comes to football," added Mike Price."

Really wish we were patient for a little bit longer and went the Roman as HC and Tomsula as DC route.

Re: 2014 Current and Potential Coaches
I'm not as down on the possibility of Linehan as offensive coordinator as many here are. When he was the Vikings OC from 2002 through 2004 we were 2nd, 1st, and 4th in offensive yardage. We were also 8th, 6th, and 6th in scoring. Additionally, in 2002, we were 1st in total rushing, rushing touchdowns, and rushing yards/attempt.
I understand that having Randy Moss greatly benefited Scott's offenses, and we did have a nice offensive line. I still think he did a good job with us, as well as with Detroit the past few seasons. Is his failure with St. Louis causing the negative reaction? Or was it his previous stint with us? I remember a lot of fans complaining about his running the ball so much when we had Moss to utilize (running the ball was utilizing one of Randy's greatest assets, the attention a defense paid him), never understood that.
Really though, he's done a fine job everywhere he has been a coordinator in my opinion. Some guys aren't cut out to be head coaches, seems like Scott isn't. Doesn't change the fact that he is a solid offensive mind.

I read a few minutes ago on PFT that Todd Bowles has taken himself out of consideration for the Browns job. Not sure what that might mean in relation to his candidacy for our position..

A lot of fans from both sides but I have not seen an Official NFL analyst or the Vikings make an announcement yet. Maybe Rick Spielman has to make the final confirmation that he hired Zimmer before the official news reports come out.Funkytown wrote: Well, who is tweeting it?

Browns are an organization in turmoil. They just fired a coach after one year and the word of mouth on that franchise can't be any good for this being the 2nd coach to take his name of their list.
Re: 2014 Current and Potential Coaches
Who'd want to coach there? Their owner is kind of a scumbag and coach that gets one year with a QB carousel of backups and no running game? Tough sell for a guy with a family to be thrust into that environment. Toxic.PacificNorseWest wrote:

Yea, that was my initial reaction as well, though they now also have given Horton permission to interview for other DC positions, leads one to believe they are fairly close to making a HC hire. Those signs usually point to that, in any case. Nice of them to let Horton get a head start in finding a new job before the new guy comes in.

Re: 2014 Current and Potential Coaches
I'd fully support Horton as our DC.
Ray Horton - DL - Browns
The Browns are allowing in limbo DC Ray Horton to interview for "any available coaching positions," including lateral moves.
Horton has yet to be technically fired from his Browns gig, but will likely be cut loose whenever Cleveland finally gets around to naming Rob Chudzinski's replacement. Horton oversaw one of the league's better defenses in 2013, and has whipped up aggressive, swarming units during his three-year coordinating career. It's surprising he didn't draw more interest as a head-coaching candidate.

Those signs usually point to that sort of thing, in any case. Nice of them to let Horton get a head start in finding a new job before the new guy comes in ha.PacificNorseWest wrote:

@MasterStrib: Still quiet around Winter Park. No black towncar, news chopper, Ford Bronco or Brett Favre.

@JasonLaCanfora
Vikings very likely to hire Mike Zimmer later today. Would leave just the Browns, who want Gase as I've reported
