I have watched Crabtree play since drafted, being that I live in Northern California and the majority of friends are 49er's fans. Crabtree should have never gotten the previous contract he had. This kid has never proved he can be anything more than the 3rd receiver on the field. He had horrible hands almost every season he was in San Fran. He dropped more balls than Braylon Edwards! (not statistically accurate, just making a joke). I would not sign Michael Crabtree due to his injury concerns, dropped balls, money he will want and his steady decline since 2012.
Crabtree had one good season in 2012, every other season he has been injured, not able to get open or dropped half the balls thrown to him. No reason to chase a receiver that had ONE >1k yard season. IMO, we already have receivers on this team that provide the same or better production than Crabtree.
Negatives:
- Averages 4 rec/game
- Has dropped almost half the balls thrown his way every year he has been in the NFL- exception - 2012
- Averages 50 yrds/game (2012 - avg almost 70)
- Only Started all 16 games two seasons in career(2012, 2014)
We need a legit #1 WR, and we need to stop signing veteran WRs hoping they will become that #1, when they never have been.

As I said in the NFL thread, I don't know where he'd fit in. I think I'd actually prefer ascending speedster Charles Johnson over post-Achilles tendon tear Crabtree. Unless Crabtree is a depth guy. I'd almost prefer Jennings over Crabtree, too. Though a lot of my opinion is on his health. If another offseason can get him into form, then maybe. Though I'm concerned how this would impact Patterson.
You are spot on, I feel the same way and have watched almost every niner game he played in.
Here are the stats to back up the fact that Crabtree is nothing more than depth, at best.

If they go after WR in FA I would rather it be an older vet guy with good hands who could come in for a couple of seasons and help stabilize the position. Not sure that guy is out there. Andre Jonhson?
He's going to be released.
I'm not completely convinced we are in dire short term need at the position. Anyone they draft is going to take a season or 3 to develop into a #1 guy. Wright, Jennings and CP all should be more effective next season and Johnson may be a gem.
Not sure a guy like Crabtree brings enough value to cost. The only guy I would see him an immediate upgrade over, in terms of what they have invested in CP is Thielen. And if they draft a highly ranked prospect Thielen might be gone anyway.
I agree with DP....unless they are considering dumping CP or Jennings(?) where does a Crabtree fit?

@DarrenWolfson After the fact info. that can point us to interest in other FA safeties: told the #Vikings were in on McCourty until it got to $7M/year.
@ArifHasanNFL If Vikings were $2.5M under for McCourty means a) they are interested in a safety, but not actually McCourty b) they have low price points

Browns tendered qualifying offers to restricted free agent FS Tashaun Gipson
Gipson is an emerging playmaker who has 11 interceptions and 19 pass breakups over his last 26 games. The Browns should be looking to do a long-term deal before he hits unrestricted free agency a year from now -- or before another team shows interest in an RFA offer shortly. Gipson was a top-10 safety in PFF's grades last year.

@DarrenWolfson Another UFA the #Vikings have inquired about: LB Andrew Gachkar. May even bring him in for a visit later in the week.

@mattvensel Count the #Vikings among the teams that are interested in cornerback Davon House.
Speculated House could command $5-7millon annually. House goes 6'/200 and would be an outside guy. Word is he's looking for a starting job after being a sub-package guy in Green Bay. Comes with some shoulder injuries. Physical guy. Push Captain to slot full-time?

How big do you think Willis' number would be? He would look darn good with Barr out there.
No reason to cut Kapernick. His contract is incentive laden and incredibly friendly to the organization.

Brooks Reed - LB - Texans
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the Vikings have "inquired about" free agent LB Brooks Reed.
Reed has been heavily connected to the Falcons, but perhaps his agent is trying to drum up other interest in hopes of driving up his price. He'd be an inside linebacker for the Vikings' 4-3 defense.

Brooks Reed? The guy has a last name for a first name and a first name for a last name. He obviously can't be trusted.
The NFL rumors are sure flyin' today, eh? Tomorrow it should be even crazier. When it all shakes out, it will be interesting to see who actually signs where.

Iupati is signing with Arizona, per Schefter.

Would love to see us sign Clint Boling, Michael Crabtree and a LB because it'd allow us to focus on CB and RB during the draft. I'm not too sure that we need to sign Crabtree at all, but Jennings, Johnson, Crabtree and Wright at least gives Teddy four capable WR options, and that's before you throw in Patterson.
I could see us cutting Jennings if Crabtree is added, though. Personally, I think we need Jennings' presence in the locker room so I would not be a fan of that move.

The Buccaneers have a $7 million decision to make regarding defensive end Michael Johnson. Soon. And it’s still not clear what they’re going to do.
Per a league source, if the Bucs cut Johnson loose, his former team will make a made play to bring him back.
The Bengals, who employed Johnson for five years through 2013 as a franchise player, are ready to try to lure him back to Cincinnati. And for good reason; the Bengals finished 30th in the NFL with only 23 sacks this season.
Johnson signed a five-year, $43.875 million deal with $23 million guaranteed in 2014. Of that figure, another $7 million will become fully guaranteed as of the third day of the 2015 league year. That’s the deadline for the Bucs.
If the Bucs do cut Johnson lose, I think it would be worth checking into what he'd cost on the open market. Zimmer and Johnson have a good relationship, if I remember correctly, and I would think that might give us a fair shot at signing him too. I would love it if we could get him on a short deal on the cheap.
It's funny, last year when the Vikings were getting slammed for signing Everson to a pretty sizeable deal, the Bucs gave Johnson even more money, and there's a chance he'll end up playing just a season in Tampa.
Of course, there's probably a pretty significant chance he doesn't get cut.

I don't see why people want Crabtree. He doesnt really fit in with this team. He's not a deep threat and we have solid guys in Jennings, Johnson and Wright. We need a #1 WR. I would truly be upset if we signed Crabtree. We need Cooper or Parker IMO.
I want Boling for sure and it's nice to see he has interest in us too. I think we will sign him tomorrow. I hope to see more on Rahim Moore. I haven't heard anything since we "inquired" about him.
Granted, if Scherff is BPA, there is still a shot for us to take him but with the interest we showed in Iupati and now Boling, if we get Boling, I think that pretty much eliminates us going OL at 11. Crabtree is the first WR I heard we were looking at and House is the first CB. They don't seem like they are pressing hard for CB or WR which means I think they could be on the hunt for Cooper or Waynes.
If we signed Boling and Moore, I would do backflips. I wouldnt care who we signed after that.
