Adrian Peterson Reinstated

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
Good points. I suppose the only reason they would cut him is if his cap space was stopping them from signing some players that they viewed as more valuable than him.

It would be extremely disappointing, to say the least.dead_poet wrote:I don't know what Rotoworld's issue is with thinking Peterson is going to be released. I just don't see it, nor do I see Rick not getting skewered if he actually does that. I'm usually a pretty patient and level-headed fan (usually), but I would be absolutely livid if this was the final outcome.
I know what you mean but just once, before this comes to a head and ends with Peterson being traded or released, I'd like to actually hear from Peterson that he absolutely wants out of Minnesota. I'm tired of Peter King and everybody else quoting unnamed sources and telling us Peterson has made it clear he wants out. I've just heard too many inaccurate reports from these reporters too many times to completely buy what they're selling. What Peterson has said publicly is that he'd love to come back for the fans and his teammates but that he is "uneasy" and "not in a good place" when it comes to the organization.Cliff wrote:If Peterson has any hope of getting the money on his current contract (or close to it) I think it's with the Vikings. Nobody is trading for him (or signing him) at that price ... and yes, I could even see the Vikings cutting him if he won't restructure. It's the kind of 'emotionless' move that Spielman has been trending towards and is exactly the kind of move a team like New England would be praised for having the foresight to do.
I'm torn ... maybe it is just time for everybody to move on and Peterson can go to the market and see what his value is there. I think he'll be disappointed.
I won't like it if we can't get any value for Peterson (be it through playing time in 2015 or a trade) ... but I don't want a player who 'doesn't want to be here' on the team either. Especially at that price.
If he truly wants out, at this point, it would be a relief just to hear it straight from him and not yet another anonymous source "close to the situation".

With the exception of when he said there was one more meeting between AD and the Vikings, Nelson Peterson has been accurate in his interviews (and maybe there was talk of one but it just never happened). He has said AD has not requested a trade or to be released. That is as close to a reliable source that there has been in this process (outside of Peterson himself).
I can't imagine Spielman releasing AD. If the choices were releasing him or trading him for a 4th, I would do the trade because at least you get something. Plus, as has been mentioned many times, the Vikings are way under the cap even with the large salary. I wonder if some people in the media are forgetting that because they make it sound like the Vikings have no way to pay him.
The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." #SKOL2018

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
I agree here. AP's bone to pick sounds like it's with some of the suits in the organization and probably some things said be the fanbase. I don't remember hearing much at all about him being upset with any of his teammated. In fact, we've heard quite the opposite.dead_poet wrote: Meh. I maintain that once the bullets start flying Peterson will be back to running hard. The fact that "he doesn't want to be here" won't affect his production. I think once he gets in the locker room and starts "business as usual" he'll be fine.
Once he's back in the locker room with those guys, he'll be fine. He may feel uneasy about other aspects of the organization, but when it comes to Zimmer and his teammates, it should still be about winning games and helping Minnesota do that.

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
I really cannot see any situation in which he would be released. it just makes zero sense and would do the Vikings absolutely zero good. if he doesn't like his situation it is not his decision he is under contract.
Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
With the risk/money involved, nobody is going to give up a package that is worth trading for. The mental wear and tear aspect is an interesting one, although I think it will be a lot different for AP running than Tiger hitting a golf ball. Golf seems to be much more of a mental game vs. getting handed the ball and told to run hard. This will all be over soon with AP remaining in purple. After the first week or two of the season, things will be completely back to normal.
That being said, I know I am in the minority here but I would trade back to 15 or so and draft Gordon like someone else on here mentioned. I understand the whole idea that "RBs are a dime a dozen these days," but his skill set seems tough to pass on. Give AP 25 carries a game and Melvin 15...takes a lot of pressure off Teddy and opens up the passing game (especially with the vertical threats of Wallace/Johnson). Also a good insurance policy and would give us options for AP decisions down the road.

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
of course they arent going to release him. Either they get what is a good value for the team in trade or they make him play and earn his contract. If he Refuses to play, he voids his contract and I assume puts himself in a bit of legal jam as the league would not let players start holding out like that and then just allow them to go elsewhere (tho I assume Jerry Jones would love THAT scenario). Tha would se a precedence that makes all contracts meaningless.

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
The way it works is like this. Say Peterson holds out, then retires. Even if after two years he comes back the Vikings still own his rights for however long his contract was. So if he has 3 years left, he owes them 3 years. A player can not retire to get away from one team to another.chicagopurple wrote:of course they arent going to release him. Think of Brett Favre's contract. He retired from the Packers after signing a 10 year contract in 2001. They owned his rights until 2011. They traded him to the Jets in 2008. So now the jets owned his contract. He played one year for them then retired from the Jets. The Jets released him from his contract in April of 2009 so he could go were he wanted to.
Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966

Larry Fitzgerald Sr claims the Vikings ARE quietly shopping AP. Says he has requested that he wants out!

I'm getting tired of the parents of players chiming in. Adrian's dad says he hasn't requested a trade. Larry's dad says he has. I wonder what their mom's think/know!?!?

Frosted with the zinger!
I agree though, as far as reliable sources in this situation go, Fitzgerald Sr. has to be near the top of the list.
