But for all we know, that FAX came in, someone in the office then takes it and just immediately puts it in the AP offers file to be looked at sometime.

It's more than a possibility that Spielman and/or what's his nuts? Haven't even looked at it yet. Considering they have a whole team of what, 60-70 guys? Which means 30-45 agents probably all wanting to talk for a few minutes about Something, anything every/any given day. Plus making most time for Coaches to make sure your all on same page in order to be sure of who to keep,trade,cut,want,draft,sign,place,move,serve breakfast, rub feet, hunt down that dang protein powder that they love and they've been using for 3years down in God know where southern Georgia But no one in the midwest seems to carry,.......

Who knows, the only thing I know for sure 100% is internet journos need to write a certain # of words a week in order to get paid.

While I think there is more to it then that. I would be shocked if Spielman takes that offer. Its been gone over dozens of times. We have all the cards. AP cant afford to crap out on a year if he wants another big pay day/second chance somewhere. He'll play here or we will get good compensations. A late 2nd rounder is not adequate at all. I would expect Arizona to end up giving up their first if they are serious.

I don't think Spielman could trade him for a 2nd even if he wanted to ... they've had enough turbulence with the section of the fan base that now dislikes Peterson, pissing off the fans that still like him as well isn't smart business. If he could get a 1st, that might soften the blow enough but a 2nd is bad PR, I think.

Of course a 2nd might look like a genius deal by the end of the season if Peterson isn't the same player this year. I know the consensus around here is that he's going to come back and play angry and out of his mind but that's not necessarily what will happen. We don't know what toll, if any, all of this stuff has had on Peterson the football player. It's not extremely far fetched to consider the possibility that a season off and constantly dealing with these legal/social issues will impact him in a negative way. How will he handle it if half the stadium boos him in his first game back? People tend to think of Peterson as superman; above injury and wear down and being mentally weighed down by off the field issues and maybe he is. Maybe he's not.

Good point Cliff, Tiger Woods is a great example of this.. I am sure a lot of it was his back, and other physical issues.. The guy was clearly not the same
after his scandal and divorce. Focus and confidence is a huge part of sports... No one likes to be booed and hated. I am sure if he comes back he is going
to hear it, from some very loyal Vikings fans.

Excellent point, Cliff. I don't doubt his will or motivation as a player but he's still human and there's just no way to predict, with certainty, how much of a toll the past year will take on him.

And I again cite his proclivity to be impatient with runs when he's all jacked up, which can be an asset but can also be a detriment when he doesn't wait for lanes to open, tries to do too much and hit a home run every time. He's been guilty of that a lot in his career and I can see that happening this year as well when he's chomping at the bit to finally play football again.

"We haven’t had contact with the Vikings about it, to the best of my knowledge," the source said. "And there is no way we could live with those numbers." It's far from surprising. As dominant as Peterson has been in the past, he's five days shy of his 30th birthday, and coming off a lost season. Reports that the Cards were willing to surrender a "high draft pick" were likely the result of Peterson's agent trying to drive up demand. The Vikes continue to claim they want Peterson back, but he's made it clear he wants out. Peterson's release is the most likely endgame.

I don't know what Rotoworld's issue is with thinking Peterson is going to be released. I just don't see it, nor do I see Rick not getting skewered if he actually does that. I'm usually a pretty patient and level-headed fan (usually), but I would be absolutely livid if this was the final outcome.

If Peterson has any hope of getting the money on his current contract (or close to it) I think it's with the Vikings. Nobody is trading for him (or signing him) at that price ... and yes, I could even see the Vikings cutting him if he won't restructure. It's the kind of 'emotionless' move that Spielman has been trending towards and is exactly the kind of move a team like New England would be praised for having the foresight to do.

I'm torn ... maybe it is just time for everybody to move on and Peterson can go to the market and see what his value is there. I think he'll be disappointed.

I won't like it if we can't get any value for Peterson (be it through playing time in 2015 or a trade) ... but I don't want a player who 'doesn't want to be here' on the team either. Especially at that price.

I don't know. Belichick seems to prefer trading away these types of players, not cutting them (Mankins, Seymour).

He'll probably be disappointed in the contract he receives (which will be less than what he'd make here), but the Vikings would also likely see a disappointment in the run game without him. Frankly I think it's more of a lose-lose on both sides except for whatever team would end up signing him.

Meh. I maintain that once the bullets start flying Peterson will be back to running hard. The fact that "he doesn't want to be here" won't affect his production. I think once he gets in the locker room and starts "business as usual" he'll be fine.
