Haha. Good point reignman. If it were our fans complaining on here after the win, I would be upset. I really do not like complaining about our players much to begin with. During a game it is different, we all get pretty emotional and I have screamed at players thru the TV screen for decades. Post game, just happy with the win. As far as Zim doing it., maybe it is because his job is to get the most out of his guys. If he feels they played poorly, his job to let them know. Now if we were getting our buts whupped every week and it didn't look like there was any hope for the team, perhaps his reaction would have been taken differently by us fans.Reignman wrote:This isn't against mmvikes, just an observation in general. How come when the coach is all critical and only focuses on his team's mistakes after a win, it's ok, if not admirable? Based on his presser you wouldn't even know we had won an exciting game today. But when fans are critical of all the same stuff, they're just negative Nancy's who should have their posting privileges revoked lol?

You can say that again! It should be a good test of how much he's grown since early in the season. It's going to be extremely difficult for him, and the offense in general, on the road against one of the best defenses in the NFL.Mothman wrote:I've been thinking about it and I feel that was his most impressive performance thus far this season. He really played well, kept his cool under pressure and threw the ball accurately. I'm seeing clear progress at this point and I'm eager to see how he handles himself on the road against Detroit next week.

Exactly and as you said, it should make a good basis for comparison since the Detroit game @ MN was probably his weakest performance of the season.frosted wrote: You can say that again! Considering the state of the Vikings o-line, they're really going to have their work cut out for them next week.
Re: Jets @ Vikings Game Day Discussion Thread -- Week 14
My one criticism: What in the world is Asiata doing on the field?
Re: Jets @ Vikings Game Day Discussion Thread -- Week 14
Especially since we've lost more linemen since. Did Charlie Johnson ever come back in the game yesterday?frosted wrote: You can say that again! Earning some tough yards? I thought he had some nice runs yesterday and he's a very physical back, which they might have felt they needed against one of the top run defenses in the NFL. I realize he's nothing special as an RB but Tate hasn't been with the team long and is probably still learning his responsibilities and Banyard... well, I like his game but he's less experienced and less physical. My guess is the coaches view Asiata as the most steady, reliable option available to them and coaches love reliability.maembe wrote:My one criticism: What in the world is Asiata doing on the field?
Re: Jets @ Vikings Game Day Discussion Thread -- Week 14
He did not - it sounds like he could miss some time. The offensive line is decimated right now. I suppose if Johnson can't go, we might finally see Yankey active? (Albeit as a backup)..or maybe not. He seems to be a long way from being ready to contribute to this team based on everything that's been reported about him thus far (needing to be stronger, basically).maembe wrote: Especially since we've lost more linemen since. Re: Jets @ Vikings Game Day Discussion Thread -- Week 14
I think there's something to that, but it's become hard to watch Asiata run the ball. Physical or not, he's just extremely pedestrian. I think his value to this team comes mostly as a very solid pass protector (blitz pickup) and as a receiver out of the backfield, he has soft hands. He just lacks burst when running with the ball, and I think McKinnon being out the past two weeks has really hurt our running game. The quicker we can get Tate up to speed (or Banyard, though if that hasn't happened yet with him, IDK if it will), the better. Asiata just offers very little as a runner, IMO.Mothman wrote: Earning some tough yards? But Jim, even you have to admit that giving almost 20 touches to a guy who wasn't even averaging 3 yards a carry was pretty frustrating to watch yesterday, correct?Mothman wrote: Earning some tough yards? I want to see Ben Tate and Banyard more as we we wind down the season. We are not going to be able to run Asaita inside against Detroit next week and expect to win.
A Randy Moss fan for life. A Kevin Williams fan for life.

Sure, I was frustrated. I'm just saying I think I understand why he's in there. I also think the Jets deserve some credit for the job they did on defense. I didn't see a lot of running room for the Vikes.HardcoreVikesFan wrote:But Jim, even you have to admit that giving almost 20 touches to a guy who wasn't even averaging 3 yards a carry was pretty frustrating to watch yesterday, correct?
Asiata's the type of back who's not going get much more than what his blockers open up for him and what he can gain through sheer effort. However, I love his effort. The guy is playing hard and giving the team all he has to give and I can't be too hard on a player like that. I'd love to see a better back getting the workload and personally, I haven't given up hope that we might see #28 in the backfield again before the season is over, although that's probably little more than a pipe dream.

Asiata is what he is ... a hard-nosed guy, a team player who's going to give you everything he's got. He also catches the ball well and blocks well. I'll add to what Jim said -- he's the kind of guy who's easy to root for.Mothman wrote: Sure, I was frustrated. I'm just saying I think I understand why he's in there. But he's not going to make anybody miss, and he's not going to get through a lot of holes because he simply doesn't have the burst.
Personally, I would have preferred to see Ben Tate get a few of Asiata's carries yesterday. Tate's got good instincts and good burst through the hole. I really liked how he looked on his three carries. But there could be a hundred reasons why Tate isn't seeing the field much thus far and Asiata is, so I'm not going to complain about it. Do I miss having a home-run threat in the backfield? Sure. Don't we all? But what are you gonna do? There's only one Adrian Peterson.
Charles Johnson is looking like a real steal for the Vikings. He had TWO excellent double-moves yesterday and would have had two long TDs if Teddy had been able to deliver the second ball a little deeper. The past four games, he's put up 15 receptions for 283 yards and 2 TDs ... that's a 60-reception, 1,132-yard, 8 TD pace.
I sure hope we can hang onto Johnson and continue to develop him. Would love to see this 7th-round draft pick turn out to be a Marques Colston-type story.

Go ahead. I dare you.
Underestimate this man.

... or earlier. It's a shame pressure forced him out of the pocket on that play. It looked like he saw Johnson get wide open earlier in the play but he wasn't in a position to make the throw. By the time he could, the Jets DB was able to make up ground and break up the play.
Nice! The best part about it is, he looks like he's getting better. The past four games, he's put up 15 receptions for 283 yards and 2 TDs ... that's a 60-reception, 1,132-yard, 8 TD pace.
Wouldn't that be great? Since he's clearly developing some good chemistry with Bridgewater, I suspect the Vikes will want to keep him around.I sure hope we can hang onto Johnson and continue to develop him. Would love to see this 7th-round draft pick turn out to be a Marques Colston-type story.
According to this site, he's actually under contract through 2016: http://overthecap.com/player/charles-johnson/2397/
I don't know if that's accurate or not.

Quote from Jarius about his touchdown:
“First time I ever had not only a walk-off touchdown, but I did it in overtime,” Wright said.
Evidently he doesn't realize overtime is the only way to have a walk-off touchdown.

Purple Reign, how can you say that when our Vikings might have the most famous walk-off TD in NFL history? Shame on you!Purple Reign wrote:Quote from Jarius about his touchdown:
