Suh had 2 more sacks this year than Johnson and got $100 million more. I can't believe a guy who had 6.5 sacks in a limited role is that cheap! But hey, I won't complain

I agree and Suh is just a cheapshot away from a very heavy suspension! It will happen, bank on it.

That's what I was thinking when I saw the deal. I'll bet there's a clause in the contract about it.

Would have been fun to see McCourty team up with Smith back there but signing him was just wishful thinking more than anything else. Just a sexy name a lot of us wanted the Vikings to target.

It never really seemed like a real possibility though. Zimmer has a very good track record of developing young players and taking other teams castoffs and turning them into quality players. That's probably the smart way to go on the defensive side of the ball, especially since we already have a ton of young talent. Maybe spend a bit on offense in free agency but just let Zimmer work his magic on defense. Have to re-sign our own guys though and Smith is probably the next one to get locked up long-term.

Interested to see what happens with Mays, Selvie, and especially Clayborn.

I'm actually very intrigued by Clayborn after watching a bit of him - he fits what Zimmer wants to do at the position quite well, IMO.

Seems like (other than the generational talent in Suh) that the market for pass rushers hasn't been set yet. Hope we wait until after it is to move on Selvie or Clayborn.

I think Mays could be a nice player for Zimmer to move around in sub packages. Cheap and versatile, fits the bill.

Hope there's nothing to the A.J. Hawk interest.

Fun first two days..get to do it again tomorrow and then the real signings start Tuesday.

Good stuff.

Agreed,
The three guys I really wouldn't want to see as Vikes this season, Suh, MCcourty, and A.J. (overrated Hessian) Hawk.

Mayes would be interesting though and would definitely fit not only scheme But as a Viking overall.

iupati oddly enough interests me and the potential impact I think he would have on Kalil interests me more than the idea of the impact he could have on APs run game and return. Overall I'm kind of just done with AP I think. I just want it done with, whatever happens. If we get him to stay, cool, it'd be awesome to keep the best RB in the game. At the same time I totally trust and believe Spielman will more than likely get a little more than he should if we trade him, so either way I see a win/win.

(And I just read that apparently some supposedly reliable source(es)? Are now saying that AZ actually dumping guys or getting ready too at this moment in a push to clear up CapSpace to make a run at AP...?? )

And I like Mckinnon, He's no AP obviously, But no one every will be so....we lucked out with Mckinnon. And iupati would help him just as well.

I'd be happy with signing Rahim Moore as well if we can.

It's hardly ridiculous my friend, it's pure analytics. Loeffler is near the bottom of Mel McShay's long snapper rankings due solely to the downward trend of the spin on his punt snap. He's only averaging 7 RPS (revolutions per snap) while the league average is 12. Quite frankly, he's embarrassing himself out there.

FWIW the Vikings were not listed as one of the four remaining teams "in the running" for Iupati (Raiders, Jets, Bills, 49ers).

Orlando Franklin - G - Broncos

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent G/T Orlando Franklin's deal with the Chargers is for five years and $36.5 million with $20 million guaranteed.

Franklin is expected to play left guard for the Chargers opposite impressive right guard D.J. Fluker. But he's also capable of playing tackle, something that certainly raised his value on the open market.

EDIT: Clint Boling anyone? He's probably the last guy I'd feel comfortable with in free agency to be a potential upgrade as a starting LG. Otherwise Scherf is looking better every day with the gaping hole next to Kalil.
