I would be so happy if something gets approved this spring. I can't imagine a football season without the Purple and Gold!!

Stadium bill coming soon.. really
http://www.startribune.com/politics/loc ... 01509.html
Outright disaster in my opinion. Only chance was a solid plan with a true local partner and real state support. Hennepin County & Mpls have no interest in paying but they want their sites in play. Lester Bagley hates losing the naming rights. The best choice is to try to build this in Arden Hills. But it's not enough when the state support is token stuff that won't raise any money. Plus no breaking ground during the epic player-owner battle over the CBA.

We will soon see if Zygi has the skills to sell or move the team. Because he has shown no skills in navigating Minnesota stadium politics. Just a Jersey Guy with no clue. But maybe that was the plan all along, we shall soon see.

Um...why would he care about the naming rights as long as the stadium gets done? The naming rights were going to be sold anyway, and the money would've been put towards the stadium fund regardless if the state mandated it or not.

The Vikings will not get a stadium bill this season, no way it'll happen. The Wilfs keeping Bagley in charge is a bit surprising, he has accomplished absolutely nothing but running in circles and have a bunch of half assed plans, but no real plan. If I were WIlf, Id sell. The economy, the state of the NFL, the hassle and PR bashing due to moving a franchise, the horrible state the Vikings roster is in, why not sell?? As a resident of Minnesota, I wouldnt vote to give the Vikings a one time donation of a nickle of my money. Not one cent. The union and owners greed are begining to ruin the game, the Vikings are quickly becoming an after thought for me. Im at the point where I dont give a #### if they move or stay or if there is a season next year or not. Argueing over billions, pure greed. Neither side is "right" IMO, both sides are greedy, selfish, and stubborn. I hope it ruins the NFL, would serve them right.

This is what it has come to. We can argue forever about it (I do with friends, co-workers etc). The fact is I love the Vikes and will br crushed if they move. If we build this stadium, I doubt they leave. I do think this plan should work

My guess is that the team is laying the foundation for a last gasp 2012 stadium push. At that time, they can threaten to relocate without being bound by a lease, which provides tremendous leverage. Plus, presumably the budget crisis will have faded as an issue. Also, there will be some degree of certainty on the labor front, at least in the sense that it will be known if any games were lost in 2012.

Upon digesting the details of the bill as they trickle out. There is a big positive. There is a mechanism to raise local sales tax to fund the stadium without a referendum. This is an exception to state law. It was also a key reason Target Field got built through the skillful
maneuvering of Jerry Bell and Mike Opat. Maybe there is hope for the stadium in 2011 after all. Still a long shot IMHO but not as DOA as I thought.

I read where some of the people who were for TF are against the plan for the Viking Stadium. I would think if it is in Anoka County, it should matter as much because then they wouldn't have to raise taxes in Hennepin county again. I can see their point if it is in Hennepin County. Although I really don't think people notice the small increase in the taxes in the long run. What was it for TF, like $0.20 for every $1,000 or something?

It wont matter, as I seriously doubt any stadium bill gets passed this season, but I wouldnt give the Vikings .01 of every 1000.00. I would not vote to give them a cent, and any Mn lawmaker who does, loses my vote. If they are too greedy to figure out, that a lock out over billions, in this economy is completely ridicolous, they are pretty niave. Both sides want more money from each other, AND the owners want some from private citizens to build their stadiums. Gee, thats not asking for much. Squibbling over how to divide 9,000,000,000 AND trying to get the state to give them 300-400 million, sounds like a good business to be in. At this point, I actually hope the Wilfs pack their #### and go see Roski in LA. Which is likely, as I cant see the state giving them anything. Greedy friggin league, quickly losing interest and pretty disappointed as it WAS the best league in all of sports IMO, they #### that up in a hurry.

If they stay in Mn Ill obviously cheer and be glad, but if they leave, I honestly dont care.
