Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
I suspect this hostile, insulting and occasionally hyperbolic PP editorial by John Shipley is a great illustration of why Peterson and his family have doubts about returning to Minnesota:

It's not even accurate.

So, what one guy says about him affects his decision? How could one play Football with such thin skin? There is nothing to be done with crap like this except ignore it. Frankly if Peterson is putting weight in what one columnist says about him then it doesn't matter what anyone else says or does at this point anyway.
Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
If that's the reason he doesn't want to be in Minnesota he's not being realistic, I don't think.Mothman wrote:I suspect this hostile, insulting and occasionally hyperbolic PP editorial by John Shipley is a great illustration of why Peterson and his family have doubts about returning to Minnesota:

If he wants people to stop talking about him in a negative way he needs to retire. He's kidding himself if he thinks he can get away from fans/media that are 'against him' by switching teams. What he did is a hot button issue that about half the NFL fanbase views very negatively and it's going to follow him for a while.
He's been an NFL darling his whole career but that's over now and if he's going to play he needs to get comfortable with that.
Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
No, that wasn't the point at all. The hostile attitude the column reflects (and it's far from an isolated attitude in the Minnesota media or among fans) illustrates why Peterson and his family might be reluctant to return and live in Minnesota.IrishViking wrote:So, what one guy says about him affects his decision?

Well now you've had two people miss it!Mothman wrote: That wasn't the point either, Cliff.

It seemed like you were saying people in Minnesota were being harder on him than another city might.

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
My point is there is absolutely no evidence to support that Minnesotans were harder on AP then anyone else was, or that even a large percentage of Minnesotans still feel that way about him. Except for a few bigger names paying attention to it because it was local (governor, non sports media, etc.)
That article is the opinion of literally one single human who has absolutely no requirement to print general consensus or popular opinion. I don't feel that way, my friends who WATCH football don't feel that way, the people I know who DON'T watch football don't feel that way.
Obviously I don't know everyone in the state but I feel that this is one single pot stirrer. It is not representative of a larger belief in my opinion. 6 months ago maybe, but I get the feeling just from talking about it with people who were incredibly hard on AP at first (call for life time bans and other craziness) have generally come to the opinion that he has done the right stuff and is getting a raw deal. I agree though, that this doesn't help the situation at all. But in the end there are always going to be people that will not forgive AP, everywhere. If he doesn't want that he needs to move to some pacific island and grow a beard and hunt fish for the rest of his life.
In short. That guy's a freaking idiot.

Sorry, I was going to add to that but then I had to answer the phone and instead of finishing the thought, I posted it.Cliff wrote:Well now you've had two people miss it!
Well, depending on the geographic location of the city and the overall attitude/culture of that region of the country, that might be true but I certainly agree with you that he can't avoid encountering some negativity and I imagine he understands that. However, one of the key differences between Minnesota and another place might be the difference between forming new relationships and dealing with damaged relationships and a continued, hostile attitude from many in the media and within the community. That attitude may also have to do with damaged relationships. I'm sure some of the people who knew him were shocked and dismayed by his actions. It seemed like you were saying people in Minnesota were being harder on him than another city might.
In short, I think it's different to start someplace new after your life has gone off course in an unexpected way than it is to return home, where you thought you knew people, they thought they knew you, and things have gone terribly awry. That goes for his family as well as him, and it's possible they are the bigger consideration here.
It's complex and it's hard to explain here without writing a novel-length post.

Shipley? LOL! I certainly didn't think that column made him look too good.IrishViking wrote:My point is there is absolutely no evidence to support that Minnesotans were harder on AP then anyone else was, or that even a large percentage of Minnesotans still feel that way about him. I hear where you're coming from, Seamus, and I hope my response to Cliff above helped clarify what I meant. I'm really trying not to delve TOO deeply back into all of the various attitudes, particulars and speculation about this subject because it always leaves me feeling drained (and it's all been covered many times here anyway).

I guess there's a rumor that the Cardinals are willing to give up a "high draft pick" for Peterson? Anyone hear anything like that?

Someone from ESPN was saying they thought AP would only garner a 4th round pick.
Myself I would like to see AP stick around and take the pressure off of Teddy.

^I want him to stay as well.
It's nice to know at least a 2nd is on the table -- if that rumor is true -- but I highly doubt a 2nd round pick will entice the Vikings to get a deal done anytime soon. If they intend to trade AP, I'm sure they're waiting to hear more offers, which means this could drag on.
Minnesota has all the leverage though. We know the details, so I won't rehash them here. At this point, I only see the Vikings taking a deal after they've heard all offers and decide on the best one or if AP starts throwing a conniption fit publicly to the point where the team feels the headache has changed to a migraine and it's best to let him go.

It totally makes sense for Ziggy to watch and wait. The later we get in the off-season, the more desperate some GM is going to be for a miracle trade for AP. Any trade that doesnt include a 1st round pick simply isnt worth it because the fall back postition is that we KEEP AP and in doing so we have the best RB in the league for another year. I am glad Zig isnt letting the media, or AP, pressure him into a move. AP created this mess, if he has to stay here another year he isn't likely ( well, you never know) to dog it and have a crappy year, that would just lower his value.

The WORST trade I would consider would be a first round and third round swap with TB and their second round pick.chicagopurple wrote:It totally makes sense for Ziggy to watch and wait.
