I don't think that matters much, if at all, although I understand why people like to see it. "Fire" from a head coach isn't what wins games. The Vikings need to plug the holes on their roster, add some more impact players and make sure that once they've accomplished that, they have a coaching staff in place that can make the most of the opportunity a quality roster presents.

Thanks! I made one error. Adam Zimmer is the Bengals assistant DB coach, not assistant LB coach. I really think Mike Zimmer deserves a head coaching chance and the team that chooses him will not be sorry.

I agree, but I think you get both with Zimmer. He transformed the Bengals defense from a near bottom of the pack unit to a top 3 unit in about 5 years. They've been top 10 the last couple of years before that, I think. He seems to get the absolute best out of his players. He took Vontaze Burfict from an undrafted free agent to a pro bowler in two years. Geno Atkins was a fourth round pick, and now he's one of the best DTs in the league. There are even more examples.

I think fire is a desirable quality, but I think too much weight is being placed on that quality in this case. I'm more concerned about whether Zimmer is someone who will take our offense to the next level. Its a given that we need better defense. What will his offense be like?

Hopefully, if the Vikings make him their next head coach, he'll be able to put together a good staff and accomplish the same thing on a larger scale, with the whole team.

Your guess is as good as mine. For all we know, the job may go to Bowles or Roman or a mystery candidate yet to be named!
If the rumor about Linehan ends up being accurate and he and Zimmer both join the Vikes, I think we'd at least see a productive offense, assuming they have a good QB enough to run it.

Amen to that. It would be sooooo refreshing to see a HC on the sidelines doing something other than just standing there with his arms crossed.

The only thing that scares me about Roman is going back to Ponder and drafting a late round guy. Ponderholics on Twitter are already excited for the notion of him coming in to "fix" him.

That's true. Quite a few of the coaches I listed held positions other than what I included. I didn't try to be comprehensive. I just wanted to list the most significant positions they'd held before becoming NFL head coaches, with a focus on identifying which coaches had previously been coordinators, since that was the subject at hand.

I don't know how he performed as a QB but a whale of a coach.
One pundit says QBs fall out of the sky for Harbaugh, meaning how he finds them, 2 excellent ones at least with Smith earlier and then Kaepernick.
I liked him as a QB but that was because we were down 20-0 at the start of the 4th Q in (93? I think) when his interception led to the comeback where the Vikings beat the bears 21-20. (Ditka almost had convulsions - It was great!)

Is it possible Spielman interviewed Horton as a DC candidate for whoever we hire. Zimmer for HC, Horton for DC, Linnehan for OC, Pfifer for ST, Davidson OL Coach, Dunbar for DL Coach, Zimmer's son for DB Coach, EJ Henderson for LB Coach, and etc
