Lacy hasn't been too bad, he has a 4.1 ypc average, though that is mainly because he has picked up his play a fair bit the last 4 games, Cobb is.. idek. Neither of them should be pro bowl alternates though, I agree.Pondering Her Percy wrote: Yeah no hard feelings man. I don't want you to think I'm bad mouthing Rodgers because as much as I hate to say it, he is one of the best QBs in the game today. It's just his play since your undefeated streak was broke, has been very inconsistent.
Also, I saw earlier today that Pro Bowl alternates consist of a few Packers. Two of them being Randall Cobb and Eddie Lacy. I hope that isn't true because both have had really bad seasons. Especially Lacy.
If it is true, we have no alternates which makes this voting even worse. It was bad enough that Smith, Barr and Joseph were snubbed but for neither to make alternates makes me wanna puke

Really bothers me that Smith didnt make it. And after yesterday's loss to the Cardinals, I stand by my assessment of Rodgers

He didn't have a good game at all but it was hard to see him take so many sacks, they should have pulled him after the O line got massacred.Pondering Her Percy wrote:Really bothers me that Smith didnt make it. And after yesterday's loss to the Cardinals, I stand by my assessment of Rodgers

No, im talking about when our already depleted O Line lost two more starters to injury and was down to one remaining starter.Raptorman wrote: You mean after that first series?

I specifically said plays in prime time which up until last week (too late for voting) they didn't have much in the way of them.Pondering Her Percy wrote: Guys have made plays and plenty of them every week.
It's a fan popularity contest so yes, fan votes matter in regards to who gets into the pro bowl. However, I personally don't think the fan vote matters in the context of determining how good players around the league are. If players aren't getting put into the Pro Bowl based on the opinions of professionals who actually watch games outside of their "team" what's the point? Also, the players haven't tried in the game for years. You tend to keep focusing on the game which I could care less about. You say it's a FAN popularity contest but then say the fans vote matters little so you aren't making much sense
If the Pro Bowl matters regardless of how players get into it how far does that go? At what point does the Pro Bowl become worthless in your eyes? How about if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow 5 players from the Cowboys get in? What if starters are decided by a cornhole tournament? Put the most popular players in the NFL up on a board and throw darts.
They're all about as valid as fans voting to me.

The NFL knows where their bread and butter is - the fans. If there weren't any fans going to games and paying for merchandise then there wouldn't be an NFL. That's why they let fans vote (although the fan vote only accounts for 1/3 of the total vote). I'm not saying that it makes sense as far as determining who the best players are, but it makes sense to the NFL to appease the fan base.Cliff wrote: It's a fan popularity contest so yes, fan votes matter in regards to who gets into the pro bowl. They're 1/3 of the vote but as you said, the NFL is looking to appease the fans. If they want people to actually watch the Pro Bowl they have to put in players that people want to watch. Not that it's working.Purple Reign wrote: The NFL knows where their bread and butter is - the fans. If there weren't any fans going to games and paying for merchandise then there wouldn't be an NFL. I don't argue that the NFL is doing it to appease fans. My argument is that it doesn't mean anything anymore.

No argument here that the game itself doesn't mean anything, but to the players I'm sure it does mean something to them if they can say they were a Pro Bowler, regardless of how they got in.Cliff wrote: They're 1/3 of the vote but as you said, the NFL is looking to appease the fans. I really think the AP All-Pro thing at the end of the year means more to everyone...but I agree that many of the players, especially younger ones, probably care a lot about pro-bowl selections.
As they get older, like Robison, Greenway, they probably care less...because it's more of a popularity contest.
