We're simply talking about trends and tendencies. I think we all understand that they're far from perfect indicators of what's to come but they aren't completely irrelevant either.84BreaksAnkles wrote:I agree. I don't understand this notion of "oh.. Ya, every runningback in the world did. That was one of the better defenses of all time. But. The rosters are completely different. The coaching staffs are completely different... Zimmer is not chilly. Wilhoite is not Willis. Glenn Dorsey is not Aldon Smith. 2015-16 is not the past.

Webb bat Philly a few years back, and actually Ponder beat Washington in the Dome too.808vikingsfan wrote: Add the fact that it's a primetime road game and it gets even more worrisome.
When was the last time the Vikings won a primetime game? Does London count? If not, I'm guessing Favre was the QB.

The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." #SKOL2018

Yeah in 2007 when the Niners had all the great defenders I think Peterson ran for like 80 yards..I agree. I don't understand this notion of "oh.. Well the Vikings always have a tough time on the road" or.. "Adrian struggles against the 49ers"

Bowman is the only good defender they have left really. He is coming off a really bad injury...
Now we have a better defense than we have had in a long time ..Early 90's with John Randle
and company. I know we had the Willams Wall for a few years but our secondary had holes and
our WR grroup was not great, at all. In 2009 Farve made them look okay, for one season.

I hope so but they have to actually prove it first.jackal wrote: Yeah in 2007 when the Niners had all the great defenders I think Peterson ran for like 80 yards..
Your memory is being kind. Peterson had a mere 3 rushing yards on 14 carries against SFf in 2007. They completely shut him down. I'm pretty sure that was his worst game as a pro... which is why i remember it. It was a frustrating day.

To win, I think the Vikings have to ... score more points than the 49'ers.808vikingsfan wrote:To win, the Vikings need to contain and pressure Kaepernick and establish a consistent passing attack.

I am not worried about the offense. I want to see the defense hold the Niners to 14 points or less. Do, that and they have an 85% chance of winning.
Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966
Re: Week 1 predictions: Vikings vs. 49ers
Quite frankly, if we hold them to less than 14 points and lose I'm selling everything I own and going on some kind of spirit quest.Raptorman wrote: I speak several different versions of English. Midwestern, New Jersey, Virginia and South Florida.

Re: Week 1 predictions: Vikings vs. 49ers
I understand a little fear because of the long road trip.
The 49ers so depleated compared to previous teams.
I have not sipped any kool aid and I really could see us
stomping them out. We thumped the Rams last season with
Cassel ...IMO Teddy is already better than Cassel was.
The 49ers honestly are one of the worst teams in Football
Right now

Re: Week 1 predictions: Vikings vs. 49ers
I think it would be absolutely foolish to chalk this one up as a victory for the Vikings before the game is even played. I personally cannot see why everyone is so intent on proclaiming the Vikings will win the game easily.
First off, this team is playing on the road. In the last decade or so, this team has yet to have a winning record on the road. For whatever reason, this team struggles on the road.
Secondly, this team is not only playing on the road, they are playing on Monday Night Football. We have a losing record in primetime games the last five years. I cannot remember the specific record, but it isn't pretty. Again, for whatever reason, the Vikings aren't the team they usually are during the season when primetime games start.
Finally, this game is going to get late. The game doesn't even start until 9:20pm central time - the time zone the Vikings are accustomed too. It will be very interesting to see how fatigue plays a role in Minnesota. A very underrated and undiscussed aspect in the NFL pertains to human body physiology - be it with the long travel hours, the various kickoff times, and all other factors that can negatively impact one's intrinsic physiology.
Now while I have major concerns about the game, I do think Minnesota has a chance to win. I feel as though Minnesota should be the better team, but I cannot bolded proclaim that Minnesota will be the victors come Tuesday morning.

Re: Week 1 predictions: Vikings vs. 49ers
Again.... why dwell on the past? Previous road records and MNF games mean nothing when it comes to this season.
I am a little concerned about the late start and long travel, but I think the coaches also realize this and will have the team well rested and prepared.

Because past performance and trends do matter.Norv Zimmer wrote:Again.... why dwell on the past? Previous road records and MNF games mean nothing when it comes to this season.
That said, I thought this was an interesting little video on strictly home field advantage: http://www.nfl.com/features/freakonomics/episode-7
Let's hope so. I really hope they don't start out flat and allow a quick score. I want to see them chomping at the bit and Griffen taking down Kaepernick hard and early and Teddy/AD to get into a groove.I am a little concerned about the late start and long travel, but I think the coaches also realize this and will have the team well rested and prepared.

Re: Week 1 predictions: Vikings vs. 49ers
I don't think they matter at all....
The Vikings have lost 4 super bowls, because we have never won one does that mean that Stat will work against us in winning one in the future?
I don't think so, again it's in the past, you can't change that but you don't have to let it affect your future.
