Well that just makes the quote even more likely. I don't think our offer was close either, I don't think we thought it was THAT important to get to #22. If it was cheap sure we'd take it but we weren't going to sell the farm for it. The evidence is waiting until #32 to send a 4th to Seattle to move up as much as we needed to and get our guy.Webbfann wrote:
Understanding schmunderstanding. Understanding BASED ON WHAT? Was Rick Spielman whispering in his ear all night? This is gossip, not information. I don't believe for a second that the Vikes wanted JM.

I don't think it was that important that we get either Johnny or Teddy, so that could explain the weak offer too.mondry wrote: Well that just makes the quote even more likely. Y'all have to consider Turner has worked with guys like Alex Smith and Doug Flutie. Patterson got on the mic and was pumping the crowd for Manziel at 8/9 and the place erupted. It felt like a funeral when Goodell announced the Barr pick.
Pull yr 84 jerseys out.

i love the barr pick, but i'm not convinced of teddy as of now. i think manziel in purple would have been huge only time will tell. maybe we did get the better qb, but manziel is an instant spark and we could have used that. with that said, all qbs who go to cleveland die.

I still don't buy that the Vikings were trying to trade up for Manziel. I believe they wanted to draft Bridgewater - they wanted to ensure they would not get leap frogged by another team for him.

Houston WOULD HAVE TAKEN HIM WITH THEIR FIRST PICK TODAY!mosscarter wrote:WHO WANTED BRIDGEWATER AT THIS SPOT??????????????????????????
NOBODY. NOBODY WANTED HIM, AND WE HAD ANOTHER PICK AT 40. NOBODY WANTED BRIDGEWATER FOR A REASON.

You're really sounding uneducated right now, Spielman knows more than we know and we traded back in the first to get him, and also if we missed on him yet he was our number one guy how do we look? Trading back into the 1st means you have a 5th year option and for a QB that is huge. There was NO way he would of gone past round 2 not even the first 6 picks in the 2nd round. Just because you heard Mel Kiper JR spewing stuff about the draft means nothing, Have faith in Norv Turner.
The term fan comes from FANatic or fanatical.
Re: vikes wanted manziel
I can't recall the last time the Vikings only carried two QBs on their roster. It's almost a near certainty that they carry 3 into the season and it's likely to be Cassel, Bridgewater, and Ponder unless they grab a guy late and he goes Russel Wilson in camp. The rule change on the emergency QB makes it even more likely they'll carry a 3rd guy.Tark10 wrote:Here in Houston, the local media anticipated drafting Bridgewater with the first pick in round 2. The Vikes thought enough of him to move up. I was hoping for Carr or Garapalo or Mettenberger. Pro Day for Bridgewater was almost painful to watch. He couldn't hit the side of a barn and his passes had no zip whatsoever. Now we have 3 quarterbacks. I don't anticipate the team will carry three in to the season. I expect Ponder to be gone by the final cuts before the season starts. They'll keep three through camp just to make sure they know what they have. Lets all hope for the best and pray we don't have another Ponder to ponder....

Re: vikes wanted manziel
Although I would like to say otherwise, Spielman responding with a "no comment" when asked if they were trying to trade into the 22 pick to grab John Manziel is basically admitting as much.
He would have been better served to simply say that they were trying to get into that spot to pick one of the remaining QB's or to say that they were hoping to land Denard or something.
I don't particularly like the way the question was handled. If people think that we wanted Manziel but 'settled' for Teddy, it is sure to leave a bad taste in several mouths. Moreso if Manziel succeeds at a greater clip than Teddy.

Huh? Let's not get too parse happy. While he might have said that if Teddy was their 2nd choice, that certainly doesn't mean Teddy was their 2nd choice.TheFoxInDetox wrote:Although I would like to say otherwise, Spielman responding with a "no comment" when asked if they were trying to trade into the 22 pick to grab John Manziel is basically admitting as much.

okay when i said the first three rounds i was way off. but, at pick 40? we didn't need to trade a single pick to get him he would have been there. manziel in purple is what i wanted to see, but i hope this works out. it seems the vikes did have an ongoing relationship with teddy and did want him the most so that is encouraging.

Safer pick? He played in a conference full of nobodies and struggled at his pro day.Demi wrote:We'll see. Higher upside, but Bridgewater is clearly safer pick. And we came out of it with Bridgewater, and a top flight type prospect!!!

Obviously Houston. That Mallett trade still hasn't happened. They also guaranteed a fifth year option by taking Bridgewater in the 1st round.PercyHarvin wrote: Agreed. Seahawks again taking from us like candy from a baby.
