What is it with people always correcting spelling or grammar on this site. This is a message board, not an English class. On other sites, people realize that some people do not check their spelling, grammar, etc. Some people type fast and do not check what they type sometimes and others really don't care. What's the deal here?Mothman wrote:
Then he'd be pleased to know you misspelled his name (it's Musberger)...

It always bugged me when people would call Tarkenton "Tarkington" too.

I remember being so pumped for this game. I hate(d) Dallas and that game was a nightmare.jeg067 wrote:Late 96 and an awful playoff game against Dallas.

Late 80's/early 90's when my Dad worked for a company that had season tickets. I've seen some good times and ugly times in person. Sean Salisbury was a QB I got to see play for us. Woof.

Sounds like you plan on living to about 300 years old or so. I'm thinking the Vikings may actually do it this century.GBFavreFan wrote: Yeah me too. Aw, where's your sense of humor? I assumed you would see the irony in complaining about Musberger mispronouncing Tarkenton's name while you misspelled Musberger's name. In fact, I thought it was ironic enough that I even asked if you did it on purpose. I thought you might be giving ol' Brent a bit of his own medicine (not that he's here to see it).MV711 wrote:What is it with people always correcting spelling or grammar on this site. There is no deal here. We all make typos and we all understand that's going to happen. If there's a difference it may be that many of us try to maintain a sense of humor about these things and consequently, don't worry about pointing a typo out once in a while or about being called out for making one.On other sites, people realize that some people do not check their spelling, grammar, etc. Some people type fast and do not check what they type sometimes and others really don't care. Anyway, I meant no offense.

Every board I've been on you will have atleast one or two posters who want to play, "Grammar Police." People usually play grammar police when they are losing an argument with another post. I, however, choose to ignore it. I do try to avoid as many grammatical errors as possible but if someone chooses to call me out on it then I just ignore it.MV711 wrote: What is it with people always correcting spelling or grammar on this site. My grammar skills aren't anybody's concern but my own.

lol. I had to laugh at this, James. I have this slight feeling you had me in the back of your thoughts when you wrote this. Although, I wasn't the main person who did this, I will admit that I have participated from time to time. lol. I don't believe I've ever done it because "I was losing an argument", because I have yet to feel that I have "lost an argument." lol. Anyways, the reason I did it, is because people come about with this (very negative) know-it-all attitude and they have the grammar/English skills of a 4th grader. To me, it's like this: Don't pretend to know anything and everything about football if you can't even spell better than my little brother and you are a grown @$$ man. lol. Make sense?JEC334 wrote: Every board I've been on you will have atleast one or two posters who want to play, "Grammar Police." With that being said, the grammar and intelligence is WAY better on here than it was on Vikings.com and you know it. I'm actually impressed with a good majority of the posters on here (even the ones I don't agree with). They tend to be very intelligent and knowledgeable. (Major props to you guys!!!) I'm impressed, and I don't get impressed too easily. lol. It's a huge improvement from most of the posters from our past. Agree?

LOL. Look familiar?!?!??!? I just threw a bunch of nonsense from multiple different posters into one little paragraph. So, yes, grammar DOES matter. No one is going to be perfect, but dang it, it does matter. Grammar skills have to do with intelligence. And, for me, intelligence is key.

Your obviously a very intelligent while spoken and written individual. I understand my grammar is probably considered quite #### lol however, lots of people have vast knowledge of football but not college /university writing skills. For example I know every football player goes through college and must keep somewhat decent grades but I have seen quite a few e-mails and text messages from players that you would of thought was written by a eight year old. My point being maybe try looking into the deeper point of what the person is trying to get across rather than focusing on the obviously grammar and spelling mistakes. As for the points you mentioned before about the senseless commenting, I totally agree they sound like whiny wagon jumpers lol.MelanieMFunk wrote: lol. I had to laugh at this, James. I understand what you're saying. But that's the point: I usually never said much about anyone's grammar if they had a thoughtful, intelligent message (whether it was written that way or not). The issue was: The people with the worst grammar and spelling ever were the most negative, disgusting "fans" you will ever come in contact with. It was just too easy to have fun with them.allday1991 wrote: Your obviously a very intelligent while spoken and written individual. Born into it, but really didn't understand till around 2000. Born/raised here in Mankato, always went to training camps with my dad and uncle, got Randy Moss's autograph personally. So been bleeding purple for a good while ha.
I've been hardcore since 2006ish tho, only missing games if I absolutely have to.

Anyone can hit the wrong key when typing. I'm not trying to be the grammar police here. Simple mis spellings are common. The Tarkenton/Tarkington thing was not an accidental thing. Some people just think it is the correct spelling. Musberger couldn't figure it out either. What ever happened to Irv Cross and Phyllis George? I know The Greek is gone..

Phyllis George has a line of beauty products that are sold on the Home Shopping Network (I looked it up. I don't watch HSN or buy the products!).Tark10 wrote:Anyone can hit the wrong key when typing. As for Irv Cross, according to wikipedia his most recent gig was in the Twin Cities!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irv_Cross
Cross was employed as an analyst and commentator for CBS Sports from 1971, when he became the first African-American to work full-time as a sports analyst on national television, to 1994. In addition to his work on CBS' NFL coverage (including co-anchoring The NFL Today from its inception in 1975 through 1989), Cross called NBA basketball, track and field, and gymnastics at various times for the network. He served as athletic director at Idaho State University from 1996 to 1998.
Cross was the Director of Athletics at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota until May 2006. He was the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota until May 2010 and is back to football commentary for the Twin Cities' Fox station KMSP-TV.

Re: How long have you been a "REAL" Viking fan?
I became a diehard fan during the 1998-1999 season. I had always loved the Vikings, but the emotional dent the NFC championship left on me took the cake, and since then I've been a fan on a mission to win a super bowl.
