Harvin traded

Look the value to player ratio of this trade obviously sucks for us. Harvin is a beast, not just as a WR, but also in the return game. Unfortunately that doesn’t tell the whole story. I don’t see any reason why the Vikes would do this aside from Harvin making them do it. That makes PH this decade’s Stephon Marbury for MN fans. In short: What a D-Bag

Frankly, Kudos to Spielman and co for making something out of this mess. Hopefully Pete Carrol regresses to his NFL mean and Harvin wallows in mediocrity as part of the process. Disgusting.

That team is going to blow up soon. They have a bunch of monster FA contracts, including now 2 at WR. My guess is Sid Rice will be on the block soon enough.

What's interesting is that if this were to come to fruition, the Vikings would likely be paying less than what Seattle is paying for their WRs. With the new CBA, two first-round receivers won't break the bank (and Wright signed a 4-year, $2.5 million contract). Unless you mean too expensive in terms of draft spend (2 first round picks on WRs), which I could see.

Okay, I know that this is a complete longshot, but do you think the Vikings were positioning themselves for a run at Victor Cruz? The Giants applied the 1st round tender to him, and now the Vikings have two of those. If they sign him to one of those Hutchinson-esque contracts, the Giants would have no choice but to let him go, and all we've essentially parted with is 2 spots in the draft. It would be some epic GM-ing, no doubt. Thoughts?

There's a good reason for that reservation.

As I said earlier, I think the Vikings hand was clearly forced here so I don't fault them at all for cutting bait and getting what they could in return. Honestly, I'm impressed with the return Spielman was able to get for Harvin and by no means do I see this trade as a sure win for Seattle. Percy may have wowed us all with his ability on the field but as I've said before, aside from what he brought on kickoffs, his overall production as an offensive player is far from irreplaceable. It still has to be replaced, of course, and that can't be emphasized enough. That's why I understand the source of your concern. The Vikes need to make smart moves as they move forward.

It's unfortunate but sometimes a team has to make the best of a bad situation and based on what we know right now, I fault Percy for this situation, which is why I don't exactly wish him well in Seattle.

We kind of don't have to, all we have to do is make the contract say he can't play more the 4 games in MetLife without guaranteeing the whole contract. Granted Cruz would have to be interested enough to sign, but I'm sure we could find the right deal.

While I'm surprised to see Harvin traded (I was hoping the rumors were just rumors), I like the following:

- Compensation is better than many predicted. Vikes have 2 firsts now and should get some very good players with those choices
- Timing is good. Making the move now gives the Vikings certainty, and that certainty can help them use the $$$ to go after a FA WR they want
- The loss of Harvin might not be as significant as feared given the way the team performed late in the season without him.

No matter what one thinks of Spielman, if Harvin was truly a locker room cancer and burned his bridges here then Spielman did the right thing by trading him and snagging a very solid haul of extra picks in the process. Now it's time for Spielman to do his best Rumpelstiltskin impression and spin that straw into gold.

I'm going to miss the little guy... He was always fun to watch and could make a big play at any time. It will be hard to replace his skills as a KR and 3rd down receiver.

That being said, "Happy trails, Percy!" If he wasn't happy, there's no point in having that hanging around the organization... time to move on. I hope he catches lots of passes from Russell Wilson, unless the Seahawks are playing us.

After initial dismay, I became thrilled that we managed to acquire a First Round pick for his services. Greedy and arrogant, no individual is bigger than the team, I admire how the organisation has handled this. Admittedly now we have a gaping hole at WR, even more so. Pick up Tavon Austin in the draft and perhaps Jennings, all will be forgotten.

I think Austin will be the prototypical replacement for Percy, certainly of the same niche, incredibly versatile. Though admittedly we need a big, lengthy compliment and preferably one with experience and the ability to be a viable red zone target. Currently, it appears as though Rudolph's our safest bet. Though Mike Wallace has age on his side, he appears one dimensional and often prone to a case of the dropsies. I would opt for Jennings, though injury plagued recently, when healthy, I still believe he possesses the ability to be one of the top receivers in the league. Remarkably consistent, strong and sure handed. In addition to all of these qualities, the idea of a former fan favourite of Green Bay destroying them appeals greatly.

Harvin's still demanding in excess of a $10 million dollar contract, perfect example of someone who will never be happy, hardly dependable himself either, often injured.

Being well under the cap, we can be players in FA but even one solid acquisition will be satisfying. The Vikes have never been impatient, we'll play it cool and build through the draft on the whole. In a perfect would, we'll add Teo and Tavon Austin, shoring up possibly our two poorest positions.

Did anyone see Rappoport's article on NFL.com? Named Harvin as our most exciting player, I'm sorry.. Did someone forget AD?

Well, if we're comparing the two, Cruz is a far better receiver... he has much better hands than Wallace. It would be a stroke of great fortune to draft a WR as good as Cruz, even in the 1st round... remember Troy Williamson?
