He's only been on the team for 2 years and has produced well in spurts when he's given more opportunities. I think he's in the mix at the 3rd WR spot just as much as Simpson is. It'll probably be a pretty heavy rotation anyways.

A FA RB the #Vikings have had exploratory talks about, I'm told: Larod Stephens-Howling. No visit set. Recovering from ACL last preseason.

Unlikely. He's never had a 1,000-yard season (hell, he's never had an 800-yard season). He'd be hard-pressed to match his 2013 numbers, IF he even starts on the outside (which I doubt).

Wright could start if injuries hit. He's already gotten the better of at least a couple of solid corners, on limited snaps (Dre Kirkpatrick & Richard Sherman). I think he's done a solid job, given his limited opportunities.

Charlie Johnson - G - Vikings

Vikings GM Rick Spielman said he would like to re-sign free agent LG Charlie Johnson.
“I think the more depth you can accumulate on that offensive line, it really helps your ballclub,” Spielman said. “That’s an area that we’ll probably address in the draft as well.”
Johnson has started 47-of-48 games the past three seasons for the Vikings, but won't be guaranteed the left guard job if he re-signs. He graded out negatively in both run blocking and pass protection last year, and is best suited for a "swing" role. Johnson turns 30 this offseason and should be limited to one-year deals.

That's interesting. He had some pretty productive years with the Cardinals. Would be a good backup and change of pace signing imo.

I disagree on Wright. Almost every time you saw a big play it was to Wright, playing as a backup. Dude can play. Needs to get on the field. Boy that sounds familiar.

I think so poorly of our previous coaching staff that I don't think we can really discount any player right now with some real coaches on board.

I actually had us signing him in my mock offseason last year. He could definitely fill a Chester Taylor type role

Dude what are you talking about?? He was drafted in 2012 so that's only two years. And if you ever followed him, he literally played all over the field when he was at Arkansas. Just because he is small doesn't mean he is a slot receiver. Look at Steve Smith. Wright is a field stretcher just as much as a slot guy. He has a lot of versatility and thats what I like so much about him. To say he's useless is just a clueless comment in my opinion.

Yeah, he's a shifty smaller guy that would probably compliment AP pretty well. I think you can get a guy like in the draft, too, though. Dri Archer and De'Anthony Thomas come to mind. Both are very small, both have great speed (I think Thomas had a surprisingly slow 40 time in the 4.5 range), and both could probably had in the middle-to-late rounds.

Bengals re-signed LB Vincent Rey to a two-year extension.

Dang, I was hoping we would go after him. Was there ever any word of interest from the Vikings?

So much for that Bengals-to-Vikings pipeline, eh?

WLB Chad Greenway has agreed to reduce his base salary from $6.5 million to a fully guaranteed $5.5 million.
Greenway is coming off of a horrific season where he graded out 34th among 35 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' 4-3 outside linebacker ratings. He has been solid through out his career, though, and should offer a veteran presence for a defense in transition. Greenway 2015 salary remains the same, meaning the Vikings could save $7.1 million by cutting Greenway after 2014.
Now, if he he's as bad as he's been the last two years...this makes for obvious cut next year.

He didn't lose much. It could even be argued he gained something with the full base salary guaranteed. Interesting.
LB Chad Greenway renegotiated his contract with the Minnesota Vikings in March of 2014. Greenway took a $1 million paycut, reducing his 2014 cash compensation from $6.5 to $5.5 million. The Vikings guaranteed his entire $5.5 million base salary in return for accepting the new contract. His 2015 season remains the same as in his original contract.

If he's really that bad, then the Vikings just pissed away $5.5M by guaranteeing his 2014 salary to save only $1M against the cap.
