Here we go boys!!! Come on Rick get it done!!
ESPN's Courtney Cronin reports the Vikings remain in pursuit of Redskins LT Trent Williams.
Minnesota had previously offered a Day 3 pick to the Redskins last week, but Washington apparently wants a little bit more. The Vikings can make it happen with 12 picks across the next two days, but the Redskins are running out of suitors after the Browns and Bucs both drafted tackles in the first round Thursday night to pretty much eliminate themselves from the Williams sweepstakes. The Vikings don't have much cap space to work with, so Cronin suggests Minnesota could send a pick and incumbent LT Riley Reiff to D.C. for Williams.
Washington wants a 2nd...to much!

I rather give a 2nd rounder than a first rounder!

Might end up having to either rescind the franchise on Harris or cut Reiff in order to afford Williams...possibly both if we want to bring Griffen back too.
Trade Reiff. Don't cut him. Washington would be even more idiotic than usual to not want him. He's added value to help get them accept a third and save face rather than demanding a 2nd.

Glad to see that the rumor spread by Dan Patrick, that a first round pick was involved, was debunked.
What do you guys think will get it done? A 4th and Reiff?
A third and Reiff.

I was thinking if we were not sure of getting Williams I would thought they would have drafted that tackle out of Houston or grabbed a guard.
Josh Jones is a not a first round prospect. He is completely raw in pass sets. There isn't even any tape of him in pass pro that has relevance to what he would be asked to do in the NFL.
I'm not an offensive line guru, but all reports I have heard is he is almost flawless in pass pro, but needs work in the run game.

I don’t think that is necessarily it. It could be a 3rd. Either way, they are running out of options so they are going to have to cave at some point. I wouldn’t mind sending the later of the two 3rds we have. But I think we’re almost forced to include a player unless we’re planning on a post June 1 cut for reiff. If a player is included, we’d have to give up less pick wise. But by the sounds of it we’re only offering picks

It makes zero sense to make an offer for Williams and not include Reiff. We can't afford to pay both.

The Skins have more leverage in this than many folks think. Trent is worth more playing for the Skins this year than what they are likely to get for him. I don't think they consider themselves to be desperate here. If they keep him he pretty much has to play and play well for them if he wants out next year. He will be on his last year of contract and will be playing for his next one. He wants a lot of money, so he'll be forced to perform. If Brucifer was still there, they would keep him out of spite. Not sure spite is a good enough reason though. Unclear how the new regime feels about spite.

Player for player trades are not the norm in the NFL, and players for players at the same position are even less common. There is a good chance Washington does not want to pay Reiff 9 million. It is possible he doesn't fit their scheme, or that they have someone else they would prefer developing on the field.
The Vikings might also like Reiff as a LG, since they currently don't have appear to have a good one.
Williams, Reiff, Bradbury, Samia, ONeil has the potential to be the best line in the NFL. It also has the potential to be very weak up the middle, but if I had to bet I would put a lot of money on the interior of Reiff, Bradbury in his second year and Samia being a lot better than last year's.

They could get a 3rd round compensatory pick if he walks after 2020 anyway. That isn't as valuable as a 4th rounder this year, but they could keep him and still get something out of it. Plus, they might prefer to keep him and hope some team's LT gets hurt before or early in the season and that they could get more for him then.

I’d give a second for him in a heartbeat. Hypothetically, if he was available in the second round of the draft knowing he was going to be a six time pro bowler, you’d take him. I just hope Rick doesn’t outsmart himself. If we could get it done with Reiff and a 3rd, it would be a great trade. To me, if you get in a track meet, you’ve got to have a great Oline. Cousins needs time or I don’t care who we draft.

Good post, and I like the look of that OL....but how can they afford Williams without getting rid of Rieff?
Also, I still really really hope they draft an OG tonight!!

FSL, you have a great perspective on Washington as we both have followed them for years. Any feel for Danny’s spite level and ego these days?

Just sign Peters to a one or two year deal draft a guard and sign G Kline and be done with this...everyone says Peters is injury prone but what else is out there who can protect Cousins?

I wouldn't stake my life on him not playing for them, but I would be shocked. All that holding on to him will do is hurt both him and them. If the Vikings are low-balling them they need to stop.
