I don't mind the trade with the Chiefs (move back in the 3rd, gain a 4th, and 7th.) But I don't understand the trade with the 49ers. They move back 5 spots and all they get is a 7th rounder. That seems worthless.PurpleMustReign wrote: Idk why he likes to stockpile 4th and 5th rounders. It isn't like he is all that good at picking in those rounds.

If the Pats wouldn't have traded up to get Garica. I think that is who we would have picked.
That's why we moved back.

Re: 2017 draft thread
LOL ok. Rick has actually been one of the best draft day guys since he took over. He's hit on a ton more picks than most teams do. His only fault has been WR and OL and he looks to be learning from his past mistakes with OL by drafting higher this year.VikingPaul73 wrote: he loves to stockpile picks for the following reasons:
1. He is a wheeler dealer and his true calling is used car salesman
2. he and his scouting staff have ZERO ability to evaluate talent so he just figures the more chances he takes the better chance he has of finding someone
he is a total and utter debacle of a GM and I can't wait until the Wilfs move on

Re: 2017 draft thread
Well, the whole trade sequence was to send away #86 for #109, #142, #219, and #245. I don't have a chart with me, but I'm guessing the chance to get some players in those four picks is better than the chance to hit on #86 alone.Dakotavike wrote:I don't mind the trade with the Chiefs (move back in the 3rd, gain a 4th, and 7th.) Or we can look at our four players, and decide whether they any or all of them have a better career than Kareem Hunt, chosen with our $86.
But I think a big part of this is getting the 49'ers top pick, the second tomorrow. Things are buzzing so fast with the draft as it is happening, I wonder if there's good value in being able to take a deep breath and figure out what players you want to target from the pool that is left overnight tonight. You will almost certainly be able to get your top choice when the draft reconvenes tomorrow. We've got three coming up in the 4th round. That's a pretty good haul of prospects.

Oh, ok. I may have misunderstood the details of the trade. I thought it was two separate trades and the second one didn't make sense to me. Whatever the case may be I do like having the three 4th rounders. Everything I've heard has projected the middle rounds to be full of talent this year. I'm really looking forward to see what they do in the 4th.John_Viveiros wrote: Well, the whole trade sequence was to send away #86 for #109, #142, #219, and #245. Rick started out so well, then just had to get his 10 picks. I just dont get it, we dont hit on many. Oh well, he has to make all the cuts to get us to 53. One of these days he has to understand it quality, not quantity.

Exactly. Like I said, his success rate after the 3rd round isn't like is is so good or something. Sometimes he reminds me of David Kahn who made trades just to make treaded and piss people off.PurpleKoolaid wrote:Rick started out so well, then just had to get his 10 picks. I think you're overlooking the possibility that they just didn't like anybody at those spots. I don't have evidence, but I think they got out of 86 because their guy or guys were snatched up right before. Right in front of them we saw Fabien Moreau, Derek Rivers, Chris Godwin and Antonio Garcia go in quick order. I'm betting one or more of that lot was what they wanted, so they backed out to regroup.
Then at 104 they got an option to trade back a few and pick up the 2nd pick in round 4. The first pick or two in round four can turn into a good value pick, or a little hot spot because someone usually slips and a team may want them bad enough to get a good value in flipping the pick.
I'm taking a waiting and see approach because the guys I would've liked at either spot are still on the board. Jaleel Johnson, Jake Butt and Dorian Johnson primarily.
Re: 2017 draft thread
Puh-leaze lets utilize these 3 4th rd picks wisely.
Another true interior OL, Dorian Johnson might be there. We have the 2nd pick of the round. Not sure that they are high on him since they moved back, but I also think that they needed to regroup as some of you have mentioned. This is an important draft. Gotta get your guys that are good for your team !
I would also look at projectable OT Roderick Johnson. Should have stayed in college 1 more year.
Also, Desmond King, was a 1st rd lock a year ago...
Josh Reynolds
Isaac Asiata
